I have triple checked all connections and everything appears to be fine. Currently i removed the Driveky mod and my Wii is back to normal, but i really want to use the Drivekey.

Does anyone have any suggestions or can offer any help? Please :(

Thanks,

Shawn

I am having the EXACT problems as you....no discs work (copied or original) if i remove drive key everything is back to normal.....i tried games which work on other systems with no problems but ALL games i tried including originals brings me to error message.......HELP!
Try to remove the DriveKey and reinsert it very very carefully making sure the whole wire is making contact both on the DVD drive and the motherboard. Also make sure you flipped the itty-bitty dip-switches to match your region. AND look at the ribbon cable provided with the DriveKey and check for kinks or broken areas.

Hope this helps!
THANKS for help...i have determined that the Drive Key is defective....replaced with another Drive Key and VIOLA everything works perfect!.....CHEERS
GREAT! Good to know you figured it out! Happy Wii-ing!!

I have read this whole thread and have a problem that has not been addressed.

I have a Wii from the very first release. I received a DriveKey today and installed it properly. (Dip switches, cables, etc...)

I am able to access the DriveKey menu and can turn it on and off.

With the DriveKey turned OFF, everything works as normal. This tells me that the hardware is installed correctly.

With the DriveKey turned ON, I can successfully load and play Wii Sports and Metroid Prime 3. Unfortunately, it gives me the black screen error when I try to load Super Smash Brothers Brawl or ANY backup games. I haven't addressed the backups yet because I know I may need to try new ISO's or new DVD-R's. What worries me is the fact that it does not play Super Smash Brothers.

Does anyone have a possible solution to this problem?

EDIT: So all of a sudden, Smash Brothers is working just fine. Now it's simply my backups. I use Imgburn and burn at 2.4x with all of the recommended settings and verifications.

Any suggestions?

Ryan

Just want to add my 2 cents. Got my drivekey last week, installation was real easy. The hardest part was keeping track of all the screws for my Wii to put it back together. Initially I too was having problem with the backup game. Finally though, I got it to work using these combinations:

1) Used imgburn (it's free!) software to burn, I set it to AWG not sure what it stands for but it burned at 2.X speed. I did manually set the burn speed before but was getting errors. Also I used Nero to burn before and that didn't work for me.

2) I used TDK DVD-R 16X media. Initially used Imitation DVD+R and got the message about "disk unreadable, reboot Wii and consult manual" error.

3) I use a Sony model burner, though I really don't believe this is critical.

I have burned a few games now and everyone of them had worked without any problems. Hope this infor will help someone out there. I am really happy with the drivekey mod. And by the way, my original disk also works fine.

Just wondering if any has tried udating a game while drive key was turned on, or do you have to turn it off and or uninstall it totally from the system then update the system? thanks

First let me say this forum was a big help in helping me to decide whether to purchase a Wii mod chip and what chip to purchase. I just installed the DriveKey chip today, it was as easy as advertised although it took a while to disassemble the Wii as I didn't want to rush through the disassembly and miss a step. Once I installed the Drive Key reassembled my Wii I burned my first DVD+R game and it worked great. I then burned my second game and it didn't work, Hmmm, so after the third burn using the DVD+r and DVD-R I figured out that I had a bad ISO file. Tried burning a different game and it worked great. I just wanted to add my .02 to this discussion thread that I was able to get the HP DVD+R DVD's to work successfully on my Wii with the DriveKey installed using the ImgBurn software and setting the media type and DVDROM settings before burning. Happy gaming!!

I would suggest using the imgburn software and the 2.4 speed. I've been successful burning both DVD-R and DVD+R disc using imgburn and Verbatim media.

you have to use the eject and or the reset button to navigate up and down and select, and thats it if you dont change any settings then you will have to turn the power off and i think when you save it,its the same..

Hi Everyone

I just got my Drivekey for my wii and this is first time modding. I am having the same problem as a few other people hear such as when I load my backup disk it gives me black screen with a error to remove disc and check wii manual. I have tried 4 differenct backups with the same result. Do I need some homebrew software installed on my wii first inorder to get this work or is their something i am missing here. I have tried burning at slower speeds with alcohol, nero and img burn with dvd-r and still no luck.

All advice would be apreciated.

Thanks

I have been modding Wii's for a while now and have discovered after several unsuccessful attempts to mod a fairly new Wii with the Drivekey that Wii's sold sometime in mid august are not working with the Drivekey. I'm sure there is someone out there who purchased a Wii and modded it after that date but I am finding more Wii's not accepting the Drivekey. Searching the net for any feedback I came across this tidbit from OzModchips News:

There is a new DVD drive that started appearing in Wii in Australia this week. So far the lowest serial number it has been found in is LAH1162xxxx. Anything under that is probably safe to work with Drivekey/WasabiDX, anything over that number will probably not work.

We advise customers in Australia and world wide to hold off buying a modchip if their wii was purchased after August 15th 2009.

There is a modchip coming from wiikey, codename 'Wiikey 3' Mid september that will combat this new DVD drive.

That was dated August 22 -
The latest Wii that refused to play backups that I tried to install the Drivekey into was LU394108xxx

All suggested methods to get the Drivekey to work were tried - +R -R discs modifying IMG burn to DVD-ROM - using Verbatim, Phillips, Maxell, TDK - all the discs were verified on another Wii with the Wiikey 2 installed - changed the Wii data ribbon - dip switch set correctly - menu is always accessible for changing settings by using eject button and scrolling with reset and original games still work.

If anyone discovers a new step to try I'm open to suggestions.

Just to let everyone know - I tested the 4 Drivekeys that I tried to install in a older Wii and they worked flawlessly. The new Wii was purchased in Canada the last week of August (2009)and has a silver Wii data ribbon - the chips are the latest - 0 and 000 diodes - I believe that Nintendo has done a simple fix to the Wii that disables the usage of the Drivekeys - best to wait for the Wiikey 3 due out soon.

Okay, read through the whole thread, here is my experience, looking for some advice.

I installed a soldered modchip into my D2C wii, everything was working great for almost a year, then the drive started making a loud whining noise (too loud to play really) Tried to fix the drive but ended up ruining it. Ordered a new drive online, installed and worked fine for a while.

Then it started giving me the message of death randomly "An error has occured, please eject drive, reset wii... blah blah blah" man I hate that message.

Thought it may be a result of my soldering job when re-installing mod chip, so bought a drivekey from canadamods.

Installed the drivekey and at first I would sometimes get the message when a game was trying to load, but if it loaded I could play for hours no problem. After a few days like this, I started getting the message randomly again, during games, and especially during loading.

I thought it may be the drivekey, but when drivekey is switched off, I still get the message, when I un-install drivekey and play the wii as god intended, I still get the message.

So at this point, I believe I just purchased a faulty drive (poor reader or something) and it is worsened by the fact that drive key can only read at 4X. I actually bit the bullet and went out and bought a new wii, but got a post august one, with the silver data ribbon that kills the drivekey (returned the wii)

At this point, I have ordered a new drive, and am waiting for it to arrive.

I burn using Verbatim -R 16X, using imgburn I burn at the slowest speed allowed (2.4X) I don't think the burns are the problem as I had never had a problem until I got that whining noise (maybe I should have just bought earplugs?)

What do you think the problem could be?

Since the games are NEW and the "protection" is new, it will take "time" to write the new "updates"....don't expect it to be instantaneous!....lol....patience.

these problems started before i bought my drivekey from what i have read. it all started with the wii resort, which i bought and istalled my drivekey just after. i know the nsmb has new protection, but drivekey does not even have any kind of updated info on there site since march. i think we are up the creek so to speak.

i understand patience but at least one other chip manufacturer has updated already and for drivekey not to respond to users emails or even state if there is an intention of supplying an update, think i should cut my losses and by a wode or something similar.

the wode looks like a very nice device, a little pricey i think compared to other mods. heres my question, they say on there site as of oct 20th that they have word from the plastic company and that they should be ready to start shipping any day. if they have already produced these before the new protection are you going to have to get it and right off start trying to get an update for it? and the whole concept of the thing can you not just use an emulator and an external hdd and do the same thing yourself?
