Got my wii working again, it was the drive, bought a new drive, and everything is back to normal.
Did d/l NSMB, and it's a no go, did the 4.1 update, and am regretting it. Never had a problem with doing an update before.
From what I hear, they actually have it now that the 4.1 update will brick your wii if you try to undo updates.
I understand Nintendo trying to do this to save some money, but I was going to go out and buy a legit copy of NSMB, until I heard that those don't work either.
Has anyone tried turning off the Drivekey and see if NSMB will load then?

NSMB fixed on DriveKey!Posted on 26th November 2009We have fixed the NSMB issue in DriveKey. The updated firmware will be in all chips shipping from Monday 30th November. We will also be providing an update for existing DriveKey owners, which will be released as soon as the JTAG programmer is ready. In the near future we will also publish a standard for appending BCA data at the end of the ISO image, so that any new game with this new protection will work without any update of the chip. The actual game ISO will remain unmodified.
this is from the drivekey website

this really concerns me, i actually thought that they would offer an update via dvd. jtag to usb cables sell for 35 or more dollars. that means it would be cheaper to buy a new card. i think next one i buy will be something with a little better support on it. the reason i finally decided on drivekey was the upgrade feature. the site i bought it from said the updates would be available on dvd and jtag. guess once again up the creek!

JTAG programmer is ready this means as soon as the guy that programes the drivekey is ready to release it. not that it will be a jtag update only. so dont get all crazy yet guys mario will play on our wii soon enough..

I am very excited about the update. I am hoping that it will also deal with the black screen that sometimes happens with a few discs. I will definitely download the iso and update it that way. If the jtag files were available, I am sure that someone would have tried using one of the many jtag flash programs like blackcat.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Also I was told this happens when an ISO is patched and that I shouldn't use patched ISOs. Is there a way for me to fix this and be able to use patched ISOs with my drive key?

sounds like you are trying to play new nintendo owned games, such as nsmb, and i know there are a couple of others. drive key is awaiting a jtag update that they for whatever reason are taking there sweet time in releasing. you will continue to have problems with newer games until the programmer is released and your drivekey is updated.

the update to my understanding will be only available by jtag programming which means you will have to open your wii. the jtag programmer will have to be purchased as well. no you will not get a homebrew channel by doing this update. drivekey has nothing to do with hombrew channels that is from softmodding.

Wondering if anyone can shed some light. I have a similar but different problem.
My wii is NTSC, with new drivekey with nsmb fix, runs NTSC backups fine. won't run PAL backups but that's of no concern to me. I can't get the backup copy of super mario bros.wii to play. my fw is 4.2u
Can anyone tell me if I'm missing some red flags here? is there something I'm not thinking of?
I've heard that the purchased copy works fine with drivekey, can anyone confirm?
I'm sure the iso is a good copy and is NTSC.
Also, when I go to the update in my wii menu, it warns that the updater may recognize the mod and render the wii bricked. can someone tell me the right way to go about this?
Thanks

i'm a bit stucked!
i've got drivekey a week ago, and the first two backups went ok (NSMB and CODMWR). The DVD were's TDK printable DVD -r.
After that i've bought 2 verbatim -r and... PES2010 works fine but Smash Bros don't. All the other backups i've tried to burn on several media (all dvd-r of different brand) not works on my wii (http://www.wiidrives.com/identify?serial=leh27104609#)
I use imgburn and nero (but this is not important as i can see).
I'm using my matshita burner (on a vaio notebook)
My wii is a 4.2e.
Is a media type issue?
Is a dvd reader issue?
Am i simply unlucky?
:)

"Hi there,
Ive got the drivekey installed and have burned the ISO's with Imgburn at 1x to intenso dvd-r's. mario Kart is the only one i have got working out of 5 ive burned today.
What happens is the disk is recognised in the wii home menu but when i click on it and then on "start" i get a black screen and the wii freezes. It wont even switch off.
My original games and some back-ups still work. Also, I gett he screen that says disk error, eject disk and power off wii etc etc
Any ideas?"
EDIT:Ok..i posted this yesterday but have since found this thread and seems i have the original drivekey without the fix.
So happens that the games ive been trying to burn are all new ie, NSMB, PES 10, FIFA10, etc
Seems to me drivekey people have messed up badly here and its very bad support if you have to go and buy a programmer to update the drivekey for the latest games. When i bought my drivekey, the site stated that future updates would be available via dvd and jtag.
I think we that bought the original drivekeys have been done!
I thinks me is gonna sort out a HDD and usb loader and forget about updating the drivekey (which would cost me money anyway!!)
Ken.

I found only one site that I was able to get working downloads, just downloading random torrents failed for me.
I am using Verbatim DVD-R x16.
Where would one download good backups?

i think its an end to this drivekey crap i will be going with a sundrive http://www.d2sun.com/
this thing runs a harddrive and just installs iso files on to it. this is some really cool $hit. no more discs and no more disk read errors it just plays the game and is compatible with all games new and old. plus its usb updatable no waiting for a jtag programmer. best of all no more money spent on buying blank discs only to burn costers.

Hi everybody!
My DriveKey worked perfectly until this morning. Yesterday evening I started WiiConnect24 to tr use some of its features. And this morning the Wii ligth was yellow and the blue led was on. And I think I remember it something was spinning in it, the dvd or the cooling-fan. Then I had a hard time to eject the discs inserted and none worked to play, nore the backups or the originals.
What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Thank you fore your help!

I purchased the Drive Key 2 and installed it and get the black screen error whenever I put any disc in, either original or backup. I checked the installation, dip switches, everything and have determined that it is installed correctly. I can't access the menu system for the Drive Key either. My Wii was purchased about 3 months after it was introduced to North America. I have taken the Drive key and ribbon out of the system for now and everything is back to normal. Technical support and response form the place I purchased it at is very slow and they don't seem to be paying attention to the detail I give them on each email regarding the problems and my request for a replacement. Any ideas out there on what I should do? I purchased 2, one for me and one for a friend and am reluctant to open the other until I et the OK to send the first one back.
