LOL ok umm do you have the air baffle/tunnel on between the heatsinks and the fans??? if not it then it isnt getting enough air flow.

just curious why the case is off? did you do xclamp fix recently? if so did you clean(should only see metal and no old compound, almost mirror shine) all the old paste off both cpu and gpu before applying new paste.

also check to make sure the cables are secure to the back of the drive and also to the systems motherboard. i say that cause you said retail discs work fine but when you try a backup you get 2 red lights. an overheating issue should react the same no matter what disc is in the drive. either way sounds odd.

NOt having the fan shroud on will cause it to overheat in about 4 - 5 min which is what is sounds like about the time it takes to boot put a game in and get it started.

I'm sure it's my burn as I have crackdown that someone else burnt for me, and it works perfectly. I'm currently burning with an external LG burner. Could that be the problem?

as far as your burner goes i dont know if that would be an issue, maybe it doesnt like the discs or is just going out on you.

weird, did you get litescribes by chance?
i have some verbatim 2.4x here and they are bluish tint like you said. I have never had 8x discs. Maybe your burner doesnt like the 8x ones. Do you know anyone that already has some 2.4x verbatims that you can get one from? would be better than buying a whole pack at this point. or maybe even take your 8x to a friend that burns games and see if they can get a good resukt using those discs with their burner.
also have you ever gotten a game to work at all using this burner?

well i dont think the burner is the problem unless it needs a firmware update but thats just a guess. My dual layer burner wouldnt recognize DVD at all till i updated the firmware and since then its been fine.

i think just need to test things out like i said before. try one of your discs on a friends burner and if they have diff discs than you try one of theirs on your burner.
