Just thought I'd drop a line to say that where I get my RitekG04s from the price has gone down from $1.25 each to $1.15 - which adds up over a hundred discs. Can probably get them cheaper elsewhere on the net but this contact is very convenient for me and I don't have to buy over the net. Have just ordered 100 so by the end of the week I'll be in burning heaven ......... I'll have a pile of great media and a burner that just can't seem to do any wrong at present. Will show you some Kprobe scans when I get them.

$ (AUS) btw.

If you have a Lite On burner download Kprobe and compare before and after a label is applied. You'll be suprised at the difference. I used to use labels and I found that after a few months my DVDs would not play right. They would play very choppy if at all. I threw a lot of them away before I realised that the labels were the problem. Every one that I removed the label from worked fine. If you want labels you can do what I did. I bought a printer that will print on DVDs. I don't know what country you are in, but you can get an Epson R200 at Staples for around $100. You have to use printable DVDs, of course. You can get these from MeritLine or any other on line store for just slightly more than the non printable ones. I have had good luck with Ritek G04s and Prodisk. I believe that the Riteks are slightly better, but the Prodisks will print right down to the hub. No coasters with either using a pioneer A07. Hope this helps.

hi forkndave:
thanks for reply and info. ok this is getting interesting. I use a plextor 708 so i cant use kprobe. I used dvdinfopro with a labeled ritek go3 and the results are 5911kb avg data rate, 2.02 current speed and 4.41 avg speed. with a labeled beall i get 7553 avg data rate, 5.61 current speed and 7.91 avg. speed. I picked these dvd's from my collection at random. I dont know what these specs indicate but the beall's are higher. also the moderator says that he wouldn't recommend beall's to anyone, they are cheap media. At meritline 100 bealls cost $99 free s/h and 100 ritek go4's are $69 free s/h. I know I'm a newbie but which one sounds like the cheap media?? The riteks right? Again I'm not saying the beall's are better. the consensus on this forum is that the go4's are the mercedes of blanks. I am just stating my "little" experience with beall's and that they work great for 2 months with labels on them. they havent passed the "test of time" yet. so in the meantime I have 32 bealls that i will have to use. I'm trying to return my other 50 cakebox to meritline (not so easy so far). I'm going out to buy the verbatums now, put a label on it, test it and then test it again in 3,6,9 months etc. I wont label anymore dvd's, i'll just put them in a case with the movie card on the outside. keep the thoughts and experiences coming. I'm sure this is a help for everyone one way or another...regards

hi:
also forgot 1 thing. I dont want to buy new printer. I'm using an epson 980 now. this is starting to get expensive. what are anyone's thoughts about buying the white label ritek or other good brand and then applying my stick=on labels over them. that should eliminate any GLUE eating away at the dvd problem. yes there is still the balance theory. regards

I don't believe it's the glue that causes the problem. Otherwise removing the label wouldn't fix anything since the damage would already be done. I have removed labels from disks that wouldn't play and that made them work. I believe the label unbalances the DVD slightly causing it to wobble slightly making it hard to read. Why it takes a few months to do this I don't know. This doesn't seem to be an issue with CDs.

If you're not having any problems with the BeAlls I would go ahead and use them. I have used many BeAlls without a problem. I quit using them after I started checking my burns with Kprobe. I found Ritek G04 had the lowest error rate. Prodisk has more errors but still well within acceptable limits. BeAll errors tend to run on the high side, but I haven't had any not work. I burn with a Pioneer A07, but I still have a Lite On LDW-411s which I use for Kprobe or if I want to change the book type on a +R disc. Pioneer doesn't support bit setting.

Well, I guess I've rambled on enough. Just remember that if you run accross a DVD that don't play right a few month down the road, try removing the label

Well I have some news. I checked my dvd's that I copied in March and some of the labels were starting to lift on the edges. I'd say about 1/2 dozen or so. Those were Neato labels that I have had for 2 years. They were actually made for cd's. I have been applying Meritline full coverage labels recently but too early to tell if a problem. From now on I won't be applying labels. There is just too much negative info coming from the forum about it plus the lifting of these labels has made my decision. Meritline is taking my 50 Beall's back with my 400 labels for a refund (hopefully). I guess I'll be using Riteks and Verbatims and the markers made for dvd writing from now on. Thanks for everyone's input. regards...
