Howdy schasty, Welcome to our humble little Club,
I believe with just a little searching you?ll find out the general opinion of this forum is that Roxio doesn?t have anything resembling acceptance when talking about DVD backups. Roxio seems to cause trouble with just about every program we use - especially Nero and DVD Shrink, 2 of our building blocks.
At the very least, go to msconfig and ?un-tick? anything ?Roxio? from your starting lineup.
Once you have done that and are using decent media, should you encounter any difficulties, let us know and we?ll set to righting the wrongs :P)
Cheers,
Pete
Quote: I use 98 at home cause I spend too much time fixing virus/addware ridden xp machines that have a hard time running solitare.
Hi jbake22, and a big A/D Welcome to you too -
I can say I haven?t heard that point of view. I spend 24/7 online and haven?t encountered any problems in the last 1-1/2 years. XP comes equipped with dual firewalls (granted, they are not much but it?s 2 more than 98 has.). I Use Ad-aware (Free anti-spyware), Spy-bot (Free anti-spyware), SpywareBlaster (Free anti-Spyware), espam (Free, for spam), McAfee, Firewall & VirusScan (paid 4) and have stopped everything out there. My Spyware programs and anti-Virus programs run ?automatically? in the ?Tasks? program. Lastly, Should something get past my system?s defenses, my XP, unlike Windows ?98,? has its ?System Restore? feature which would allow me to take it back to a point in time BEFORE any files were lost and return my system to its clean operating condition. 3 other systems I look after have the same type of protection and the same record.
I can?t imagine anyone with even the slightest protection having problems with XP and viruses. There are so many systems out there with XP that it?s the first system that security patches are found for, I receive tech reports as fast as they come out (as anyone can) and the patches are in place weeks ahead of public notices.
Whoa to anyone dumb enough to go on the Internet with any OS without a currently updated anti-Virus program in place. Baring that, what does old ?(*? have that makes so impervious ?? Please enlighten the ?ole? ScubaPete -
Thanks,
Pete

Thanks Pete
I agree mostly.. XP is resonably safe if you are a avid computer user... but have you ever had teenagers use your computer???? all the ad/antivirus software in the world won't save it. Have you noticed some screen savers come with adware? And if XP is so great why are they brining out service pack 2 this summer, a down to the bare bones security fix which they claim will not even slow you down more but likely mess up a lot of older software running fine now. XP could have been great, Xp looks nice has better harddrive file system and doesn't have the shared resource pool problem of 98 but like most MS op systems it was released about 6 months before it was finished.
Advantage of 98 is the hackers attention these days is all on hitting xp and most of the holes in Xp do not exist in 98. If you read some of the definitions on the new worm/virus's appearing they all seem to be geared to xp. Unfortuneatly adware seems to run fine on any machine still...lol
But this is all off the topic and so is this but I'm sayin it anyway. This is one of the better discussion sites I've seen. Most of my searches for help have sent me here so this one seems well worth joining. cheers all, jason

Jason,
The KEYWORD here is "Teenagers" (lol)
Thank goodness mine is headed toward his mid-30's.
About XP, Yes, the hackers have targeted it but, still and all, the XP OS has stayed ahead of the curve -
About Teenagers,
Too bad you can't give them a cheaper PC of their own and when it "Crashes", "Oooohhh well, you should have taken better care of it." As my dear old Mama used to say." - LOL and now sadly, I are her :-(
They'll have to learn that that "Cool" Screen saver comes with 15 spywares and a never-ending stream of "Pop-up Porn ads.
I check my system every week and find 2 to 4 Data-miner but that?s all.
Me ? If someone touches my system they'll need some finger trans-plants -
One thing about teenagers I am sorry for - Ya can?t kill?em -
Aaaauuhh well, if wishes were - - - and like that - -
Cheers,
Pete

I also use Win ME
Use Decryptor/ Shrink in file mode or Shrink alone in file mode. then use Nero or roxio or whatever to burn the video_TS and audio_TS folders to DVD R disk.
Another option using Shrink in re author mode, would be to manually adjust compression to get movie under 4 GB, then could use ISO mode.
However, I have have very good success with the file mode in Win ME. It's one more step, but not a bother.
