good to know, but isn't the point of getting a 4X burner and 4X discs, is so that you can burn at 4X.. I guess it's not that big of a deal, cuz who sits there and wait for the burn to finish anyways.. you go read a book, take a dump, take out the trash, etc... right?

My biggest concern is the quality of these disc in the long run...they work fine at 2x but will they still work after 6months or 1 year? The glue residue is what's making me worry the most. If it's your only copy and you find out they don't work after a year, that will totally suck.

I agree. But another point to look at is the fact that of all the 4X burned ones which don't play in the stand-alone, 99% work fine in the computer DVD player. Moreover, if it doesn't work in the stand-alone, re-burning it (backup to backup) with Nero at the 2X seems to result in curing the defect - leading to a completely functional one usable in the stand-alone.

No comment on the long term viability of the product...
