@Wise,
Ireland wrote it ... it's easier to cut and paste. And if you didn't notice, not everybody looks at the same thread or forum.

Reformating apparently isn't your problem, backing up your software and programs seem to be. I purposely have a 2nd hard drive simply for storing a back-up filee of everything on my computer. Did you know that when you reformat the main hard drive the secondary isn't touch?
Also, if you have a DVD burner you have a nice medium for creating a back-up disk you might want to consider using.
I'm not trying to be and @55, I just remember the horror's of running Windows ME and having to reformat frequently. I now have XP and a problem I can't solve nor make sense of. I really don't need to reformat as my drives simply won't play games or music disc, no real biggy that's why I've put off reformating for a month and a half but I probably will do it some day soon just so the kids can have their fun. I've actually enjoyed them not being able to use the computer, everything else works.

I would recommend to whoever wants to buy a second hard drive for the reason of backing up their operating system and current configuration to consider instead investing in Norton Ghost. By imaging your Hard Drive that program will save your behind hundreds of times and will give you the confidence to experiment with your PC safely in the knowledge that should something go wrong you can restore your Operating System and all installed software in less than 15min. If you image your HD with Platinum activated and working whenever your restore that image Platinum will be working without activation being required. I highly recommend Norton Ghost - speaking from experience.

DCPC,
Error message 100 is invalid password.
Have you ever registered on 321's forum and if you did when you registered there your old password changes to that new password in the activation computer. Turn off your firewall and try and activate it again using your 321 forum password

DCPC,
Do you have Norton or ZoneAlarm? If so all you have to do is Right click and disable your firewall. It is in the taskbar ( lower right of screen).

DCPC,
If you still can not activate by the internet try this
1) Activate by choosing "activate from another computer".
2) You will now get an internet activation file. When you open this file it will take you to an activation login screen and it will verify your info. "Next" should come up so click it.
3)D/L Activation File.reg and save it to your Desktop or save it to a floppy disk. If saved to your desktop then you can burn it to a floppy or CD later. If I am not mistaken this file is date sensitive
4) Now open the floppy you have just created , click the activation file and now you should be good to go. Do the same method as above if you D/L to desktop.

DCPC,
You were able to get the .reg file onto a floppy, right? What version were you using?

The (Hank) thing was suppose to be THANK but it's all good and I didn't need to save it to a disk because the whole time I forgot that DVDXCOPY changed my password some months and Sundays ago. I am using DVDXCOPY GOLD. I don't know whether to bring this subject up but what is a great AVI. to MPEG convertor?
I'm using Cucusoft AVI VCD DVD MEG convertor and on some download I got no sound. Thank You all once again.

Well I went ahead and reformatted. I installed the original DVDXcopy Platinum I had and then ran the downloaded 4.038 file after and everything seems to be working just fine so far.
I have not heard back from DVDXcopy and I doubt I will so they are leaving me hanging.
Oh, do I save something to my PC so if I do this again I can just click on activate from another PC? I can't remember the thread that told about this so if someone could post a link I'd appreciate it.

Everybody ... A bit of bad news. The activationfile.reg might be time sensitive. So it may not work for future activations. I don't feel like reformatting my second pc, at least right now. So if anybody wants to test this, please post your results. Thanks.

Oh, I failed to mention that I did activate mine on-line after using the original software and then simply ran the 4.038 file I had downloaded to upgrade and I'm back where I started.

321Sucker: What was on the site you referenced? Was it online activation or a workaround?
