I turned off the background programs and still either shrink goes out or the PC competely reboots.
Sometimes an ISO file is created but it is clearly incomplete instead of 4.6 GB it is like 3.7 as example then if I try to burn this out the iso image is not recognized by Decryptor.
Therefore I am still stuck with the 2 options you provided, either the memory is short or it is overheating.
You prompted me to check the task manager for more memory diagnostics, here is some data:
1.- Under physical memory it says 261,664 (It figures as I have 256 memory).
2.- Available memory it fluctuates between 30,000 and 110,000.
3.- Cache is around 100,000 as well.
4.- CPU Usage goes to 100% and every 6-10 seconds then I see a drop to 90-80% sometimes as low as 40-50% while shrinking.
5.- Pagination memory is low at 160, is almost not used versus the 4000 I set.
6.- DMA still DMA as I have not reached to the burning point since I am stuck with the shrinking step.
By the way, I don´t know if this means something but the encoding rate (Encoding window) it says like 2131 KB/s and the buffered goes fom 3 and raises to 45 MB to drop down again to 3-5 MB.
Please advise:
a) If you think this info clarifies that I am short in Memory (It doesn´t look to me since there is available memory but I don´t know if I am reading this properly).
b) Is it time to test the temp on the CPU/Motherborad?
or do you recommend to try first the Intervideo DVDCopy2 Platinum to test the memory rigth now.
Thanks for all your help. even if I don´t fix I am learning a lot... It is fun... my best regards sensei.

Hi,
Quote: DMA still DMA as I have not reached to the burning point since I am stuck with the shrinking step.
I may have missed it but did you get Motherboard Monitor set up? It may not work with the OEM board in your HP but it's worth a shot.
A reboot or freeze during the encoding process sounds suspiciously heat related. Encoding a movie puts full load on your CPU so if you have inadequate cooling reboots and freezing are common.
Are all your case fans working, clean and free of dust bunnies behind them?
Is there good ventilation around the case?
Is the ambient temperature in the room abnormally high?
A simple test to rule out heat problems would be to remove the side of your case and position a floor fan so that it's blowing directly into your open case and then run Shrink :)

-------did you get Motherboard Monitor set up?
Hi there, I tried to monitor the temperature but I did not know the kind of motherboard I have to choose in the selection list when installing the motherboard monitor.
The fan is working and actually just cleaned it out a week ago (It was filthy =))

Well well, thanks a lot guys.
The mistery has been cleared and the problem solved, thanks for the guidance.
This is what I have to report.
I couldn´t run the Motherboard monitor as I did not know what Motherboard brand / model I have.
Nevertheless I took the cover out of the CPU and unfortunately I did not have a Fan to place to cool down the processor, despite of that I blew every 5-10 minutes to the chips ang guess what... It worked!!! I backed up LOR I & II, I need to buy the third one to have the collection complete but I will wait until it is on discount.
Between the first and the second back up I return the virtual memory to its original state 382/762 to see what happened, i monitored the CPU and memory usage again and alost ran out of memory very close I kept the CPU cover out and blow at the processor but now just once in a while, I think just by having the cover off was enough to maintained cooled.
So my followups will be the following:
1.- Clean again the PC.
2.- Check the fan, it is working but it is enclosed in a plastic cage, so will open it to see if it is cleaned or what.
3.- In case the fan case and everything there is OK, I plan to buy a 1 dollar battery operated hand fan to use when I need to back up.
Buying the memory expansion stills sound reasonable to me in order to have less concerns (remember.. today I only have 256MB installed), I have a question though, having more memory reduces the CPU temperature as well?, sounds unlikely but may be please advise.
Thanks again for your help, I hope other people with the same problem learn from this thread.
As summary I would say the following.
1.- My RAM is very close of not being enough.
2.- The problem is due to a temperature increasy in my processor, need to make sure the fan works, the PC is clean and/or increase the cooling with an external element such as a standed or hand fan.
3.- By downloading spyware software I fixed other problems I used to have (Adaware, Spybot, CWschredder).
4.- Defragmentation is also important for a smooth and faster operation of the PC.
Thanks again guys you are "the men" and this software is fantastic, it runs really stable.
DVD Decryptor ISO read save to HD
Schrink to Load ISO file and compress saving another compressed ISO file to the HD.
DVD decryptor ISO write to burn the compressed ISO file.

Well, that's good news.
To answer your question, no, extra memory will not help keep your CPU cooler. It will keep you from running out of memory and having a system freeze.
Your CPU draws around 65 watts of power. A lot of that ends up as heat that has to be removed. Get a good CPU fan/heat sink, and make sure you put thermal paste bewtween the the heat sink and the CPU.

I should also mention something about the virtual memory/page file. This is temporary memory that is stored on the HD. If the value is too low, you will run out. This can cause a freeze or reboot. Worst of all, without a larger value set to minimum and maximum, you will find your drive fragments much quicker. This is because Windows will lay down a page file anywhere the first chance it gets. You can actually see the results in the defrag utility.
IF you complete an encode, and find the burn is choppy and full of macroblocking, check the file you burned. If it is the same way, you likely had a severely fragmented dirve. Sometimes defragging can make the file playable, and thus burnable.
