Here are all the new features coming with Windows 10

article published on 4 June, 2015

As we learned earlier this month, Windows 10 is ready for launch on July 29th, a major update to the operating system that will cost most legitimate Windows users nothing to upgrade. Besides bringing back the Start Menu (thankfully), and adding smaller but important features like quick startup and resume, Windows 10 will introduce some serious updates on the browser and software side. ... [ read the full article ]

I'll take the F You MS approach as there's plenty of working loaders for W10.
Limited number of installs? I've never had this problem. I've ran my copy of XP on at least 7 different rebuilds without a problem and since using win7 it's been installed on 3 different rebuilds.

Maybe you're using is oem machine like a Dell or HP or something? I could see maybe your key not working with a new, non-oem mobo.

He is running Vista and 7 which isn't the same as XP so your experience is not the same, totally different beast from registration limitations.

It has been stated that it isn't tough to phone in for the automatic activation, it's pretty painless truly, as ridiculous as it is that MS makes you do that just because you've changed your hardware.

As for W10, I got screwed with buying Vista & W7 with their licensing limitations so I'll take a pass on this one.
OH! I didn't know that Linux was Java programming. Me thinks Java OS will be a tough competitor against Windows. LOL

I've had this issue with Vista & W7 NEVER with XP.

Remember the issues Vista had? I wound up reinstalling Vista way too many times because of the problems inherent with the OS and when my board did finally burn out, I had to call MS for a new serial number.

Yes, farly easy tasks but why should I have to do this in the first place???

BMWs and KIAs are not equal either...if both were made by the same company, wouldn't it be insane to say that BMWs couldn't drive on roads meant for KIAs? Sure, if you have a 150MPH road for the BMWs, then yeah...no KIAs...but the other way round makes no sense. The only thing the XboX one can do better than a 2-year-old gaming PC is to be physically compact.

After thinking of it, this advantage will certainly be for the PC. Even if KB/Mouse is blocked in settings, and even if the settings are heavily optimized for a stick instead of a mouse, there are already software packages designed to get around this and then output the results through a microcontroller, and into a PS3/PS4/360/One. Modifying it to not need to output to a physical USB port on a console wouldn't be hard at all.

But I'm still looking forward to Windows 10. If anything I'm an Android fanboy but I have to admit that MS has been making a lot of good moves since Satya Nadella took over.
Yeah...my hopes got dashed too. Heck, you can already use a tuner and a teensy to play any console you want on your PC, but you are not really playing it on your PC, only through your PC. Microsoft's early announcements on this matter implied a new feature, not just a change of something that has been available for 10 years and which no one used except for recording videos.

Android malware is a lot different than Windows malware in that you not only have to manually install it AND agree to give it permissions, but that you can also uninstall it any time you want and just like that it is gone. Even if it manages to make some nasty changes to settings (after you gave it permission to do so), you can just do a factory reset because the actual OS remains untouched. That's a world of difference from malware that can hide on commercial music CDs, self install, and trash your optical drive read capability. While it may not be what you thought you were installing, and it may do damage of various kinds, it is essentially just a standalone program...and such could be created for any system capable of accepting programs.

It is still a nice addition to be able to stream via built-in software instead of using capture devices, third-party software, and Teensys/Arduinos/RPis/etc. to hack it in. There is a lot that can go wrong in that approach and it has to be done within USB cable/video cable distance of the console unless more magic is done to stream through a local PC to a remote PC. It sounds like you can use this like Remote Play which is great for gamers on the go with decent internet access.

Android malware can do semi-permanent damage to sys if you are rooted and blindly/accidentally give is su permissions.

There was a competition in the last year or more where pc gamers went head to head with console gamers on xbox live in a controlled enviro.the console gamers put up a good fight however they were no match simply because of the accuracy & i assume speed of a mouse & keyboard. Both console & pc gamers were heavily vetted to make sure they were upto the task

I don't argue that a controller is equal, just that if someone wants to have better controls (KB/Mouse), they should be able to do so. If that means those players are better, the lobbies will sort it out. All the new games have at least 720P video with 5.1 sound...isn't that allowing for an unfair advantage against those with 480i tv's and stereo sound? Why should controls be any different?

I imagine it's because of the scope for fraud.
But like you say, hardly the most onerous task anyone ever faced.

Generally speaking I dunno what it is, they are basically giving this OS away for free to millions upon millions of users....and still people whinge about it.

I watched the video from Microsoft included in this article.

There is absolutely NOTHING of interest to a serious computer user in the list of features for Windows 10. It is all about gimmicks and games. Nothing is said about the ability of what is ostensibly an operating system to operate a computer and run programs.

In particular, nothing is said about the ability (or lack thereof) of Windows 10 to run legacy software such as pre-bloat (older) versions of MS Office or older programs with 16 bit installers.

Son of a.... When they said I could play xbox one games on my pc (a PC with the same architecture as the xbox one but far better specs all around), I figured they would just make up some minimalist emulator that functioned something like DirectX. Instead they make up some crazy remote desktop for games that still requires the purchase of a xbox one, still requires paid xbox live for multiplayer, and still restricts graphics (and presumably still blocks the use of KB/mouse)??? WTF microsoft?

Why not just use Linux? Better security, hardware support, and software selection...linux itself is free and can run on the same PC as Windows. It is essentially a better version of a $3000 mac FOR FREE. Then you can use your money for a better use...like wallpapering the house in $20 bills...that would be better than spending it on a mac.
After all these years Linux is still not ready for prime time. Linux is a wonderful OS but Joe Sixpack is not interested in configuring their OS. The majority of people these days are lazy. They want to press the, "Go" button and away we go! I can't stand Macs and have never liked them. It's more of a specialty OS for musicians and graphics types.
I've playing the guitar for 50 years. There's plenty of software which is able to replace the incredible expensive, yearly fee laden Pro Tunes at a quarter of the price or supported by shareware donations.
The snob Mac dude posting here is obviously a troll or loves throwing his money away. Apple sheeple love to camp out, stand in long lines for smartphones that are already obsolete. Purchase a fashion statement watch that they still need their iPoop in possession to communicate with their warped world.
I know, "Jeff, tell us how you really feel?" Hah!

I miss my Amiga 1000 too but Linux even for those of us that are willing to spend the time find it very convoluted and poorly supported. I still run into driver support issues and I really don't want to compile every time I need something. However it has gotten better and there are some distro's that are mostly plug and play like Zorin OS.

Linux would be far better/popular if windows programs were ported to it.The most annoying thing is command line/coding knowledge required, that right there is why linux will never compete with windows because windows just works out of the box with practically everything inc hardware. What fucks me off the most is my age, back then computers cost thousands,i think the imac g3 was $8000.00nz i would've loved to have had a comp in my school days along with the net, kids today don't know how dam lucky they are the little toe rags..lol..

Sure there isn't.
Not even simply having the most accessible & easy to use OS that simple just works with almost everything out there.
Or with the most up-to-date security?
Or with free support until something like 2026 (although they have said the OS will break with previous models of updating/replacing so who knows how much longer it might go on until)?
Naaa, no reason to even give it a look.

Shame it doesn't cover every legacy possibility out there but hey that's the nature of the beast (& hardly something that only applies to MS I computing, having said that they do a much better job than almost everyone else trying to please most).
But some will insist on refusing to see this.
What can you do?

They even give it away free (to what will probably amount to several hundred million personal & business users) & still some cry & moan over it.
Like it's forced on them.
Downright weird if you ask me.

scorpNZ you should try Zorin OS it works right out of the box and comes with Office and some other very nice programs. It is probably the best Linux distro for plug'n'play and it is modeled after Windows 7. You are right though totally about Linux as a whole, I agree!

It's quite a task porting Window software. Windows seems to be compiled upside down. Guess MS wanted to make sure porting to a another platform was quite a PITA.
Linux, frustration level is high when I can't find drivers for my Creative SB X-Fi. I really don't want to do it myself.

I will give Zorin a try. I won't keep my hopes up.

I had A500's, A1200's A2000-030 A3000, A3000-040 the butchered A4000 SCSI replaced w\IDE interface Boooo!. SCRAM in the day cost $55.00 a meg. OUCH!

Windows 10 sounds like it will be popular, but I hope everything works well on it. I have a desktop with Windows 7 on it and like everything except the problem with the internet service being dropped after being idle and having problems getting it back. On a laptop with Windows 8.0 everything worked fine, but is strange for me. I upgraded to 8.1 which wasn't worth the upgrade really. They say that I can get version 10 for free, but I would use up my monthly server time just to download it and won't do it. I have had copies of Linux since the 1990's and had problems with getting drivers for my printers and sometimes the monitors. I used OS/2 since version 3.0 since Windows 3.1 crashed too much and me losing information. Most of my computers still have Windows XP which was stable and allowed me to do my work and really don't want to change. vista was the worst version of Windows since Windows 98 and a waste of my money. I hope the new version is as good or better than XP.
