article published on 4 June, 2015
As we learned earlier this month, Windows 10 is ready for launch on July 29th, a major update to the operating system that will cost most legitimate Windows users nothing to upgrade.
Besides bringing back the Start Menu (thankfully), and adding smaller but important features like quick startup and resume, Windows 10 will introduce some serious updates on the browser and software side. ... [ read the full article ]

If I were a gamer, I'd have a Windows computer for ONLY games and use my Mac for everything else. Since I wouldn't actually be visiting any websites except legit sites that might have updates for games, I would heavily reduce the chances of getting viruses and spyware.

Which you have to pay three times more for and if they ever become popular enough you will see more viruses and spyware for them. That is the only reason they dont have more viruses now isbecause Windows owns the market and the virus makers want to hit the larger population. I so hate the unfounded arrogance of CRAPPLE users.

I would agree and they pay through the nose to be arrogant Crapple's, as you put it, plus the very limited market for compatible hardware for their highly Propitiatory systems makes them a deal breaker. If MAC wasn't so expensive and proprietary they would be decent but unfortunately that's not the case.
As to 10 it looks like a good marriage between smartphones and Windows, I can't say everything offered thrills me but it also doesn't put me off like 8 does. With the possibility of running the same apps as my phone I can see some advantages to upgrading from 7, possibly?

Nothing here but some fairly tedious trolling really.
Windows attracts viruses & spyware makers because almost all the world uses it, that's it in a nutshell.
The fact that Windows is also pretty damned good at withstanding this constant assault (even when users fail to look after themselves properly with updates etc) speaks volumes too.
I've never had an issue with XP. Vista or 7 and I expect 10 to be no different, just the same rock solid & reliable OS that just works with everything....without gouging me at anything like the laughable degree Apple does with its' products.
If I could be bothered I'd have a MAC for Garage Band & that's it.
It has some nice & convenient features.
But as it is there are alternatives out there & they don't think they're entitled to dip their hand in my pocket to anything like same level.
I've simply got more & better things to be spending my money on.

Quote: You can play games on your PC, streamed directly from your Xbox One console to your Windows 10 tablets or PCs
Son of a.... When they said I could play xbox one games on my pc (a PC with the same architecture as the xbox one but far better specs all around), I figured they would just make up some minimalist emulator that functioned something like DirectX. Instead they make up some crazy remote desktop for games that still requires the purchase of a xbox one, still requires paid xbox live for multiplayer, and still restricts graphics (and presumably still blocks the use of KB/mouse)??? WTF microsoft?

Why not just use Linux? Better security, hardware support, and software selection...linux itself is free and can run on the same PC as Windows. It is essentially a better version of a $3000 mac FOR FREE. Then you can use your money for a better use...like wallpapering the house in $20 bills...that would be better than spending it on a mac.

Why would they ditch their entire Xbox ecosystem and hardware to support PC only? That goes against the reason they created the Xbox to begin with, because PC gaming and console gaming are not equal.

Keyboard & mouse on a pc using live against users using a controller would give an unfair advantage in online multiplayer type games

KillerBug - I read your comment the other day where you implied that Windows 10 would let you play XBox games without an XBox, and I thought "really? Wow, that would be awesome!" You got my hopes up and now they're dashed! :-) lol
But I'm still looking forward to Windows 10. If anything I'm an Android fanboy but I have to admit that MS has been making a lot of good moves since Satya Nadella took over.

Android has it's share of viruses and malware and since Android is Linux-based, watch out Linux users. It's only a matter of time before Android malware is ported to the Linux & Mac environment.
As for W10, I got screwed with buying Vista & W7 with their licensing limitations so I'll take a pass on this one.

ANYTHING that is popular will be targeted by viruses, Linux and Apple are not immune from such attacks. But the fact that they haven't suffered as much from such attacks just goes to show you their true popularity. Can you say niche crowd. However I must say I'm glad we have those variants, more so Linux, and wish there were more in the crowd to compete as well.
Licensing issues? I'm missing something here? They're not leasing to you I hope and if they aren't how in the world did you get screwed? Unless you bought a system with the builders license and you didn't make a backup. But even then I'd just slap a modified version on your system and say screw you MS.

MS has a limit on the number of machines you can install Windows on which means a limited number of times you can install and reinstall until activation by phone becomes necessary. Suppose your motherboard craps out and you install a new one? Your license key is now useless. I've had this exact experience.
I'll take the F You MS approach as there's plenty of working loaders for W10.

Really? Really???
Please tell me you're running this in some sort of a sandbox because if it's your main gig then you are a loser! Anyone that jacks their primary is truly a bottom-feeder in need of the first available act of desperation.
I'm guessing you're joshin' us though.

LOL, you sure are a clueless tech owner. I've seen quite a few viruses on iPads recently. Don't worry, they're coming. Enjoy your locked down platform for now.

And so what?
You phone them & it gets reactivated.
No big deal.
Never heard of a limit to retail OS installations.
I have had to do it & it's an easy automated process.

Like mine did?
My retail OS licence wasn't useless, it was transferred without any problems, automatically over the phone, I just entered the original licence code & got the authentication code in moments, I didn't even need to speak to anyone.
That was my experience.
OEM authentication is a little different - but MS are usually pretty generous about activating them (the net is full of tales of people pleasantly surprised by their approach when they contact them and explain what's happened).
I just don't understand you hostility, maybe that was what created your bad experience in the 1st place?

Limited number of installs? I've never had this problem. I've ran my copy of XP on at least 7 different rebuilds without a problem and since using win7 it's been installed on 3 different rebuilds.
Maybe you're using is oem machine like a Dell or HP or something? I could see maybe your key not working with a new, non-oem mobo.

Yes it'll be an OEM version not retail as to why there's a limit. Can also be forced to re-activate when too many hardware changes or even adding more hardware is done.dvd drives, ethernet adapter, hard drives, ram, cpu.Switch out or add any of these & you'll get flagged on the next auto update

From personal experience video card and motherboard changes are the most likely to trigger WGA crap.
