Try using the 61.77 WHQL drivers turn on vsync in the advanced options and I wouldn't run it above medium settings at 800x600. Just my opinion and if all else fails try http://doom3.filefront.com/ and have a look around.

Known cd burners to make a working backup of Doom 3(Safedisc 3.20.022)

1) Plex Premium (52\32\52x)
2) Lite-ON (52\32\52x)
3) Asus (52\32\52x)
=====================================================
Good rom readers for Safedisc and SecuROM
1) Lite-On LTD 163
2) Lite-ON LTD 165
3) Lite-ON LTD 166
4) Lite-ON 167
====================================================
If your hardware can't backup Safedisc 3.1-3.2, the only solution is using a "no cd patch" as long as you purchased a legal copy. Anything beyond this is P I R A C Y!

Asus K8N nVidia nForce3 Pro 250 GB, Athlon 64 3200+, Hitachi 80 gig SATA 150, Corsair XMS 1 gig PC4000, ATI Radeon Saphire 9600 Pro (256 DDR), Windows XP Pro (64 Bit),Lite-ON SOHD 167T,, Plextor PX-712SA,BenQ 1640.

you need to add Pioneer 107D to that known working cd/dvd burner list.

In the beginning I was having a difficult time backing up pc games, and so I thought it was my burner giving me problems when in all it was just the program's I was using.
Some games work with AL120 and some don't, and also some games work with Blindwrite and some don't.

Hit or Missed

Some say that Pioneer is a one sheep burner... Is it really? cause their is not one game I can't backup. huh
just being curious.

I think I did?

but what I think I meant to say was, if Blindwrite doesn't work then AL120 will and or the other way around.

Humble me.

Humble you? Laughs.. Anyways, the "new generation" 2 sheep burners can backup any Safedisc cd protection at present. So basically your Pioneer and my Lite-ON dvd burner are "old generation 2 sheep burners."(I can backup up to Safedisc 3.10)> Get it? I hope so m8. I won't debate as to which software should be used to make working backups of Safedisc 3.20.022 as Blindwrite 5 is very unstable, even if one owns a Plex Premium (52\32\52x)

Bad mistake m8. Get the Plex Premium(52\32\52x) and keep your Pioneer :)Newegg has some great prices on the Plex Premium :)

Sorry to be out of the loop, but what is a 2 sheep burner. I have the Sony CRX320A 52x32x52x/16x DVD-ROM.

OK never mind. I found the list of 2 sheep burners. My burner isn't on there though. Probly because it's pretty new. Anyone know if it's a 2 sheep burner?

try making a backup of a safedisc 3.2.0 game. I think that is the best way to tell if your burner is 2 sheep.

1) Plex Premium (52\32\52x)
2) Lite-ON (52\32\52x)

Will you please tell me the models I should look for for each of these brands? Thanks...

Hi cruester,

You can check whether your drive is 2 sheep or not using the tools at this link :)

Not the best. My Plex Premium is a definite 2 sheeper yet my attempts at Doom 3 using BW5 didn't pan out. This was the fault of the software not my drive's abilities. I'll be testing BW 4.57 very shortly :)

Thanks Nephilim,

I most likely will buy the Plextor Premium. Does newegg ship to Australia? Anyway, you said u had trouble backing-up Doom 3 with the PX premium. This is the game I have been trying to back-up. 2 Questions:

1. Will I be able to back up Doom 3 with Plextor Premium using Alcohol 120 1.9 latest version

2. Can I both READ my Doom 3 origional copy and WRITE to CDR with the Plextor Premium. If not will the other ones you mentioned do it?

Neph,
If BlindWrite 4.57 should fail you backing up Doom 3(Safedisc 3.20.022), then try CloneCD and don't enable fast error skip and read at 4x. Use FireBurner and burn RAO DAO 96 at 4x. Another alternative is DiscDump& FireBurner. Note when installing FireBurner that you don't disable "autoplay" during the install process. PM me if you need any additional info m8 :)

You should be able to. The only working copy of Doom 3 I've made so far has been with A120 and my Plex Premium.

Yep. You can read/write with the Plextor. I used my Lite-On 166S to do the reading when I used A120 but it looks like I need to use the Premium to do the read as well as the write when using BlindWrite 4.57.

I just checked newegg and unfortunately they don't ship internationally.

Thanks for the tips Shoey. I'll get Fireburner installed this afternoon and BW 4.57 is installed and ready to be tested this weekend :)

You can also run DOOM3 using AL120's virtual drive. Just load DOOM3 to AL120 image drive and play without the disc's incase you can't get a working backup of DOOM3. Just another way to play so you don't ruin the original.

Our main goal here is to get a working backup of Safedisc 3.20.022(Doom 3) cd protection m8. Once we've accomplished this mission, we have no problems using virtual stealth drives to play our cd protected games ( Daemon Tools) :)

Neph,
I failed to mention to use your Plex Premium as reader as 1st option, then Litey as 2nd option. I read at many forums people who own Plex premium drives have had success backing up Doom 3(Safedisc 3.20.022) cd protection, just a matter of finding the right software. Many used Paddus DiscJuggler :)

Asus K8N nVidia nForce3 Pro 250 GB, Athlon 64 3200+, Hitachi 80 gig SATA 150, Corsair XMS 1 gig PC4000, ATI Radeon Saphire 9600 Pro (256 DDR), Windows XP Pro (64 Bit),Lite-ON SOHD 167T,, Plextor PX-712SA,BenQ 1640.

DiscJuggler? Never used it. I'll have a look at that as well. One can never have too many tools in the arsenal :)
