i was in a similiar situation thinking that mine bricked, try adjusting your background lighting and see if that is the problem. i've followed this guide downgrading to 1.5 with 3 psps. if you follow this guide exactly, there should be no problem at all.
if you plan to upgrade to 3.03+, make sure that you delete stuff in the memory card before doing so. i think that's what cause people to brick their psp. however, it has been a few months since i've done mine. someone else please confirm this.
good luck

HA! i have seriously KNOWN what to do for about 3 months now.... after staring at this thread for a long... long time, i finally did it... and im on 1.5 BABY!!
i dont know what i hyped myself up about all this time it was seriously the simplest thing ever.
Just make sure you have a real memory card that you bought at wal mart or off of tigerdirect.com or something like that is all the advice i have to give

Is there more of a risk downgrading than using devhook? Can 1.5 do everything that 2.71 can like wifi?

I got a Sony 4GB PRO Duo MS and a 2.71 TA-082 PSP, is it possible to downgrade with the 4GB MS? has anyone try using a 4GB MS to downgrade from 2.71 to 1.5?
or do i need to get a 1-2GB MS in order to downgrade safely since that's been done before.

I have a brand new 2.71 PSP and I just used this downgrader and it went off without a hitch. No problems whatsoever.
However, in researching which open edition firmware to upgrade to I read about TA-082 owners who used older downgraders having problems with keys and idStorage and corruption (example: http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=85767). I honestly do not understand what it is all about... but I'd like to know if this program(s) is one of those older ones which people have had problems with? I really hope not!!
My PSP is currently sitting on 1.5 and I figured I better get some more info before I do anything else. So...
1) If there is a better program is there anything I can do about it now? Such as upgrade back to 2.71 and start over (or even stay official, I'd rather be official than have problems!)?
2) How can I tell if there is anything wrong with my PSP? I tried to use "Key Cleaner" but I could not get it to work.
3) If there is a problem with the keys, corruption, etc - what exactly does this mean? What functionality would I lose? What problems would I have? Etc.
4) Which firmware should I upgrade to? Is there anything I should do first?
Thanks. I apologize if my questions are stupid, they probably are as I do not quite have a grasp of this stuff yet, but I very much appreciate any help/advice!

i have just one more question.
my psp was downgraded to 1.5 using this guide then updated to 3.10 oe-a. i currently have devhook 0.52 installed to emulate 3.11 for some demos and any future games (proper UMD's dat might need 3.11).
the question, can devhook 0.52 (installed and running fine) emulate 1.5 firmware?
i know some of you might be think why i didnt just keep it at 1.5, the reason is i have more real UMD then downlaoded games and i play all the demos which require 3.xx onwards firmware, it is just easier to have my psp at 3.10 oe-a so i dont have to keep on using devhook first to emulate the higher firmwares.
i only want 1.5 to run some homebrew stuff, i rarely do this and thats another reason why i have 3.10 oe-a.
Thanks very much.

Quoting myself here..... I figured out why the program in Qyestion #2 would not work, it is not compatible with 1.50 firmware.
I am still wondering about the rest of the stuff - especially which OE firmware to upgrade too. I'd like to use the safest/most stable version.
Also, I'm wondering if and how to go back to official firmware if I want to for some reason, like a new game or feature down the line requires is and is incompatible with the OE firmware. Is there any risk with that, having used this program?
Thanks in advance.

First I am a complete NEWBIE with PSPs but I have a few questions.
1. I just downgraded from 2.71 to 1.5 on my TA-082 PSP. Do I have to keep all the Downgrade files on my MS?
2. Can someone give me a link to a tutorial on going from 1.5 to an updated version that has the internet browser, lets me play newer games, but still lets me play ISO's and Homebrew?
3. Can someone tell me the most Newb/User friendly emulation software to use?
-Thanks in advance-

6. Once its loaded (the psp will restart automaticly --> this means it loaded HEND) go to GAME in the XMB and load/start idstoragechange.
(this program just changes some keys ^^)
7. Once this program is done and loads your XMB again, go back to the GAME menu an dyou will see your Generic downgrader called "Update X.YX"
Load/start this.
8.This will now insatll the 1.5 FW onto your psp. when its doen it sould ask you to press "x" were it will restart the psp an dyou will get a BSOD.

First off, I checked the top right corner of the circuitry behind the UMD Drive lid and it says IC1003 upside down, this means that I have a TA-082 mobo right?
Secondly, I checked my PSP's firmware version and it is 2.60. So...I was just wondering, if I simply upgrade my PSP to firmware version 2.71, can I follow this guide?
Thanks in advance!

1 - do you need to use a sony pro duo mem stick or will it work with the lexar stick i have (the mem stick doesn't get destroyed in the process right?)
2 - i have psp v 2.6 ta-082. Can someone please point me to the forum how to upgrade 2.6 ta-802 to 2.71?
Thanks so much

1 - Any memory stick is fine, it will not get destoryed.
2 - Actually my PSP was 2.6, I had to upgrade to 2.71. Use the 2.71 eboot here

Success! Wow, this was the easiest thing ever. Bought a PSP last night, it was 2.60, the game I bought Mercury Meltdown updated it to 2.71 (lucky me, if it would have asked to update to anything else, I would have done it). Followed this guide STEP BY STEP. EXACTLY AS IT SAYS. And now I am sitting on a 1.5 TA-082 PSP!!!!
Now, on to the next steps. This is freakin' sweet. I was worried at first because I was using a Lexar 2GB memory stick and everyone said Sony brand.

Okay, I found a 3.40 OE-A installer. Looks easy enough. Is that the easiest way to get to 3.40 OE-A? The 1.50 downgrade was simple enough, but I'm kind of lost now.
