I went to that site (blankmedia) and it says they open and repack the dvd-r's. I heard that wasn't a good thing.

Definately not a good thing. You might get two different dye lots. Only buy Taiyo Yudens in Origional Pkg.

Hi there,
Even if they are repacked, you are paying for some 4x, and you might end up with 8x, so that's not so bad.
Here's what they say on their web site
Quote: Authentic Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media, made to the highest standards. Highest quality, suitable for duplication and public distribution. Disc features no stacking ring -- this means it can be printed by today's high speed disc production systems. The spindle you receive may be TyG02 or TYG01 depending on the batch lot. These are sold in bulk 100 packs. They are opened and repackaged for orders of 50 pcs. Orders of 50 pcs receive cake box packaging.

Now that's the silliest thing I ever heard ~
Would you care to elucidate and regal us with a factual basis for that statement ?
I've purchased TY's in 100-pack spindle lots for years. Have I been risking my entire DVD collection, perhaps jeopardized the physical health of my 4 DVD drives ?
How could I have been so foolish ?

Yes I will educate you if you wish. If you ever looked around the dye side hub on inner ring you will see number usually starting with GG, GD GH etc. The number GG00001159 indicates that dye lot was 1159. I have many dyes different dyes lots. The 8x + Tys lot 1133 are a great deal better than dye lot 1159. The 1133 dye lot is a Ty 8x + Yuden000-T02-000 Fuji branded. The lot 1159 is the same MID but Sony branded. Same media code but different quality discs. Do some scans for yourself and see.

@ALAND,
WoW, thanks ever so much ~ Taiyo Yuden makes a super crappy media
Hey everyone, If it isn't an 8X, 1133, DO NOT BUY IT !
My God ALAND, Thanks, I must have been MAD, MAD I say to think there was anything at all good before the advent of the 8X disc.
Stupid, stupid ScubaPete, for years, I've been under the impression that TY's were great. I remember lQQking HI and low for 8X a couple of 3 years ago and all I could find were 2X and 4X (only the 4X in the last 1 1/2 years ago) and not knowing that they were to be avoided at all costs, not only did I buy them BUT I told thousands of others to purchase them also. How many hundreds of thousands did they sell as being a top-notched disc when all those years we should have purchased only the 1133 dye app ~ God, were we all a$$'s or what ? Thank goodness there's someone as smart as ALAND to bail my sorry old butt out, . . . I gotta buy him a thank you gift, .. ..
Gee, I thought I knew a little something BUT NOW, well WOW again. To think, there can only be one good disc AND mixing dye lots is to be avoided because it is definitely not good.
(Come on Pete, put your thinking cap on, the opposite of "not good" is, . . . Ohhh yea, it's BAD ! Man, that is truly scary, . . . . )
(taking a notepad to jot it down sooo's I don't forget the cold, hard facts,)
OK, we know never ever to buy anything other than TY 1133, I just threw out 120, 4X TY, What else should I get rid of ?
Are only the Verbatim 8X any good also ? Were we insane even considering anything other than an 8X ?
(Man, it's a good thing I got rid of those 4X TY's that I bought for $24.00 / 100, what a rip-off ~ and to think, I might have 2 different dye lots, Man was that a close one ~)
OK, I'm going around to all the posts I've done over the last few years and I'm removing Sony's, Phillips, TDK's, HP's all discs made by MCC, RICOH and Ritek that aren't approved by ALAND OR are not 8X discs.
(beginning to wander off, staring at the floor, shaking my head and talking to myself, . . . . . ;(
What have I done, I've lied to so many for so many years - all TY's EXCEPT 8X, any other dye is substandard crap - come on Pete, get it together, you've got a lot of typing to do . . ..
Now I wonder, do I have to burn them at 8X too, . . . . ? Maybe if I'm burning at 4X I'll have the laser on the dye too long and ruin everything, . . . . Soo many cold hard facts to digest, . . . . IF THE PACKAGING ISN'T RIGHT, trash the discs.
Quote: Definately not a good thing. You might get two different dye lots. Only buy Taiyo Yudens in Origional Pkg.
Lemme see, does it hold true with Ritek ?
I was recommending G04 dye AND the G05 stuff too, . . . . I guess the G04 dye went "bad", like all of TY's previous dyes and it will rot my jewel cases and contaminate my drives, . . . so many facts, without the proper packaging, you cannot get decent discs . . . where would I be without someone so generous with their knowledge to point out that all I thought I knew was total garbage -
Gee, I was so very close to ruination, imagine, if I might have had 2 or, heaven forbid, even 3 different dye lots on my table at the same time . . . I hate to think of the consequences, fire, flood and pestilence.
So had to fathom, there is only one dye lot that can be used ? Never mix dye lots, "It defiantly is not a good thing " (note: sorry for the quotation marks, I couldn't bring myself to misspell defiantly :( My bad . . . )
Quote: Definately not a good thing. You might get two different dye lots.

is it me or is it Memorex?? come on guys..... lay off this guy.... I still burn at 16x and I have no probs with my DVDs! Does that mean I know it all...... HELL NO! I am just satisfied that it works for me! I do slow it down if I think there might be a problem with the certain DVD that I am burning! But 9 times out of 10 I go at 16x. I hope that doesn't burn anyones bubble cause I go against the norm! I feel sorry for Aland that some of us are jumping on his case. If he's giving out wrong ifo just correct him. He's doing what we do...giving info on what works for him. It's a learning experience and we are all evolving! ok..... he said stuff that might be head banging for others who have been giving information on the contrary for years...... killem! oh hell......... where's your gun at!

I sincerely apologize for having a different opinion than Scuba Pete. Although I think he overeacted to my comments I will leave this thread to the "real experts" on this thread. After that post, I can see that no opinions are needed on this thread. You already have someone that can answer all your questions. I am truely sorry to have wasted your time.

@scubapete,
why are you being so harsh on aland? after putting ME in check about my error on media, did you have to take the time to insult him in this thread? YES, you ARE the expert on media scubapete and have been for years, but does that give you the right to ridicule someone to that degree? as you told me to do, "grow up"~ he meant no harm by what he said, whether his opinion makes sense or is incorrect, that is not deserving of the kind of sarcasm that you put on him. for someone that is highly regarded as the long time expert on media, you sure know how to put us "newbies" down.
@aabbccdd
do u really feel aland deserved such a beating? you are only encouraging it~ i don't think so, no need to kiss scubapete's a$$, NOBODY doubts scubapete's extensive knowledge and wisdom on here, but aland still doesn't deserve what he got, he's a good guy, and I will personally stand up for him; it's the principle, not whether he is correct or not about his statement.
