does anyone know if the people making DVD Shrink is still in business and are working on new versions. Not that the current version isn't working; i haven't had any problems with it yet, but I've been wondering if DVD Shrink is dead. All their file links are gone and the only way i can get it is through bittorrent.

Here's a link to the 'offical' shrink site:
http://www.dvdshrink.org/ The developer now works for Nero so the program will no longer be updated. It was last updated sometime around July 2004.
What files are you looking for?

on nothing, you've answered everything. i know the site, but the mirrors on filemirrors are all gone, and i have trouble downloading the program through it's other links. I just wanted to know if there were going to be more updates, but i guess not. but since the developer is now working with Nero, does anyone think that there will be any negative consequences? such as the barring of DVDShrink with Nero when doing "improper" things.

oh ok, there is it. i just didn't look hard enough. i didn't need the file, i downloaded it via torrent. My main concern was of the program's future, or lack thereof.

@luusyphre
To b honest with u. I wouldnt b dishartened if DVDShrink discontinues... because the current version working in conjunction with DVD Decrypter and a DVD burning program e.g. Nero, ClneDVD etc...
These 3 steps will let u back up any DVD's!!! :D
i hope that clears things up and makes u feel beter :)

I know that there are other programs I can use, but I primarily back up DVDs by compressing DVD9s to DVD5 to allow me to watch them on a standalone DVD player. I'm not sure if DVD Decrypter does that, but even its been discontinued! Does that DVD2One do that? I'm a relative noob when it comes to things like this (hence my member rank), but i've gotten by with DVDShrink, #1 DVD Ripper, DVD43, and Nero. I like that ratDVD but it doesn't play on a DVD player and it takes too long to unpause. Which I can see being a problem when watching foreign films and needing to read subtitles.

As fasfrank states you can get along with just Shrink and Decrypter, they are both excellent programs. Since you own Nero you can try the Recode program it does the same thing as Shrink, but is faster. The only thing it lacks is the quality enhancements, but I have found that the quality from Recode is very good, and Nero keeps updating this program.

no newer versions of shrink.The programmer works for Nero making Nero recode.Which is the same as shrink without the encrypter.You can go directly to dvdshrink's website and it hasn't been updated for a long time.Still works great.

oh nice, thanks, that was exactly what i was looking for (a successor to DVDShrink if it ever became obsolete). I'll probably try using Nero Recode the next chance i get. But i have another question, which quality enhancements setting is best for what? Is there a setting that I would be best to leave it at if I don't know? default, maybe? or Max Sharp as the link says?

I apologize for my bewilderment, but this sentence confused me a little. Are you saying that this thread marks the first time the link to this hack was ever posted (at least at Afterdawn)?

Well, I for one am very glad to see that Afterdawn is continuing to host the latest version of DVDdecrypter. I think VERY highly of the program, and I used it about 7 or 8 times a day, and not just for DVD's - I use it to make a considerable amount of backups. I download it about 5 to 6 times a week, upgrading computers. It is actually harder to find DVDshrink than it is to find DVD Decrypter now. The links on the DVDSrhink page all go to strange places, and I have seen ZIP files password protected, and with Trojans and Pasasiteware added to the install package (IE, one installer package I saw, also installed the I-lookup.com PARASITE/VIRUS)
Hopefully Lightning UK will build an interface into his new Nero program that will allow it to be seen by DVDShrink.
See, I just don't get this, since DVD Shrink ALSO strips off the macrovision protection, why the heck did this stupid moovie company go after DVD Decrypter?
Looks like the only SAFE way to develope this software is to find a tropical island somewhere. Somewhere the MPAA cannot REACH.
