Ok make sure you are booting with the right swap magic cd or dvd they are diff. if your trying to boot a cd-r game then use swap magic 3 cd or if its a dvd game then use swap magic 3 dvd and if that's not the problem then you are burning wrong tell me how you burn and what speed?

Hi!

I don't want to consider myself a newbie, but i'm running into a problem... i think i've narrowed it down to me using SwapMagic3 wrong. I've got version 3.6. Here's what i'm thinking...

I put the swapmagic disk in... it boot's up fine. Now i orignally thought that all i had to do is stick my knife in there, unlock the disk, pull out the tray, put my backup in, close, and relock it... then hit x to "load program" but i kept getting the red screen of death saying "Not a valid PS2 disc"

Later i was like, oh, i guess i have to put in an original disc using the eject cd and have it update the TOC (table of contents)... which however i have no idea why so if someone can explain that and confirm this is right that would be great! This still got me the red screen of death... poo

Now what i was like, well let's try a real disk and see if that works! Lo and behold i put my copy of Spiderman 2 in to load the TOC (stupid game by the way) then swap trick my copy of Splinter Cell in and hit the x button to load the program... Mind you these were both originall actually PS2 games, but what happened! The red screen of death..

Also, i randomly got a backup of FFX to work once, but then the next time i tried it it didn't work! wtf m8s!

Help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi
Im a newb at swap magic and all this stuff. I keep getting the not a valid ps2 disc error. The swap magic 3.6 dvd boots up, and goes to the load program, video screen. But when i put a backup in and press X, it stays on the load program screen for a minute or two, then prints under Video, "not a valid ps2 disc". Ive been told the screen is supposed to change colors depending on whether or not it can load the disc, so im really confused at this point since the screen stays at the load program screen. Ive tried dvds burned with Nero, dvd decryptor, and Alcohol 120%, all of them get the same error.
Thanks
BOB

Take your email down. Use DVD Decrypter. Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R. Use good DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, TDK, Maxell, Sony, or Phillips. Here's a guide for DVD Decrypter: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html

Can anyone explain why a backup would work once but then not again?

My only explanation is that maybe my SwapMagic Disk is bad...

Well differences in burn procedure, burn speed, different media, simply a defective DVD causing an I/O error (bound to be a couple duds in a 50 pack, unless you're using TY), user error, using different burning software, etc. There is a lot of things you need to eliminate before blaming Swap Magic.

So i figured out what the heck was wrong with everything... I had bought a cheap knock off brand of Multi Tap off of ebay, and that thing has given me it's fair share of problems with reading memory cards... well anyway as soon as i unplugged it i can swap everything without issues. Now i just have to deal with the long load times and sometimes freezes... which sucks but is better than nothing

Well you can probably fix that try burning slightly faster or slower on good media.

Do yourself a favor and run Nero CDSpeed (from www.cdspeed2000.com) on these discs. Do a disc quality test and a benchmark (disc transfer speed) test. A normal disc should have a PI error maximum below 280 and a PIF max below 32 for ECC 8 (or 4 for ECC 1). Also, the transfer curve for the benchmark test should be smooth.

If your backups don't follow these guidelines, then you're simply burning bad copies -- simple as that. If they do, then your PS2 laser is going down the drain: proper PS2 game backups don't have any freezes.

Hey ya peoples,
I finally got swap magic to change screens after clicking X to load a game, but it goes to the ps2 red colored screen that says to please insert a valid ps1 or ps2 disc. Also, should the swap magic disc be in the ps2 b4 turning the ps2 on, b/c i cannot get the cd driver disc to load at all no matter when i put the disc in, although the swap magic dvd disc loads but doesnt seem to work right. Just incase its the type of dvd, what type would u guys suggest.
Thanks

The Swap Magic CD is terrible, that's probably not your fault. What kind of DVD-R's are you using? Use any of the brands listed above and you should be fine.

Using RIDATA dvds, and Memorex cds

Ridata is manufactured by Ritek, so it should be fine. You're burning at 4x with DVD Decrypter and having no luck? What speed is the DVD? If it's 4x, burn at 1x or 2x. How big is the iso for the game you're burning?

I can't find any options for burning the DVD's at less then 4X, maybe im just not seeing the option. For the most part, the .iso's are around 1.15GB (the only exact size i remember right now). Also, it's not just DVD games, CD games are not working either. I really think it's the swap magic, because the only time I can get the screen to change is when I try loading swap magic inside swap magic (completely pointless, I know), otherwise, when i insert the game and press X, it stays at the initial swap magic screen for a few seconds before saying (still on the initial screen) "not valid PS2 Disc"
The swap magic site kinda indicates that swap magic 3.6 can load games from USB. Is that true and if it is, does anyone know how to do it? If I can get that to work i'll live without being able to actually get the 'swap' part to work. ;)
Thanks Peoples

Well you may want to send your SMD's back. If you ordered from a reputable site, that shouldn't be a problem. Your burner probably doesn't support burning under 4x. I have no idea if Swap Magic can work in combo with a USB hardrive. I think that's what USB extreme is for. hey all.i have DVD Decrypter and i basically know how to use it i just want to ask some questions:
-what is the newest version of swap magic dvd?
-i recently bought DVD-R 8X[no name],they do not work on my Progressive scan dvd player,so im guessing the 8X is too slow,so i would like to know the best[yet cheapest] and fastest DVD-R?
-what's the difference between PAL and NTSC?
Thanks!

@bailly4c What kind of media are you using? What program are you using to backup games? I suggest using 4x or 8x Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media. The four most common programs for backing up PS2 games are DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn, Alcohol 120%, and Nero. They all work well. I have written step by step guides for each of these apps, with pics included.

DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn: http://www.xtreme-source.com/showthread.php?t=800

Alcohol 120% and Nero: http://www.xtreme-source.com/showthread.php?t=804

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
