I have been recording with DVD Shrink for the last year and suddenly the last 3 months every movie I record ends up pausing and even sizing my players to the point of having to disconnect them and repower up to remove the disc. The movies seem to not record completely and at times i get errors that recording failed. I have also worked with DVD decrypter and the results are the same, I tried changing dvd bran names and no go also. Can someone please help me and let me know what I am doing wrong?
Well fastfrank i have tried everything, checked everything you mentioned and still no luck. I have been using Memorex, TDK and Fujifilm. They all checked out ok on all test, I also had Best Buy store check them and they were found to be ok. I tried Decrypter anain and in will not pick up (record) any movies over 4.7gb, what can I do about that? DVD Shrink is what I am also concerned about. Anymore ideas?
I'd like to point out one thing, Shrink cannot burn anything. It opens a burning program like Nero Burning ROM or DVD Decrypter to perform the actual burn process. More than likely you have been burning with DVD Decrypter.
Can you play your copys on your computer and did you try them in any other players? Your player just may not like the particular DVD you are using. Especially if you had been using Memorex. They use several different manufacturers.
Try a DVD-RW so you can see if it works. I would not be surprised if it plays perfectly. If it does not you can erase it and try something else.
You may need a firmware upgrade for your burner. A quick way to do this is to have DVD Decrypter take you to the firmware website which is http://www.rpc1.org.
Try this:
Open Decrypter, select your burner as the Source. Click Tools then mouseover on "Drive". Click on "Check for firmware updates" at the bottom of the list. that should take you to the correct location at rpc1. Just download the current firmware for your burner open and install.
After that try a burn to your DVD-RW.
While you are getting the DVD-RW , pick up some Verbatim, Ritek or Taiyo Yuden media. These are the only ones I trust. I use the -R 8X variety.
If a burn fails again, try and post the Decrypter log. You can see that by clicking View then Log. I always have that open so I can see what's going on.
FYI,
Different ways to use Shrink and Decrypter to copy a DVD:
1. Open Movie in Shrink, compress and remove encryption, Autoburn .iso with Decrypter.
2. Open movie in Decrypter, remove encryption, Open decrypted files or .iso in Shrink, compress, autoburn .iso with Decrypter.
3. Shrink is used to compress and remove the encryption- an .iso is created on your HDD. Decrypter is used in the ISO Write mode to burn the .iso on your HDD to a blank disc.
4. Decrypter is used in the ISO Read mode to remove the encryption and send the iso to a location on your HDD. Shrink is then opened to compress the .iso so it will fit. Decrypter is then used either automatically or manually to burn the .iso to your blank disck.
Fastfrank thank you for all your help I have not been able to get anything going here if anything it is worst than ever before. shrink now freezes over and shows errors Nero is also doing the same and decrypter is totaly dead. I am assuming I may have picked up a virous of some sort because my PC is now very slow at whatever I do.
Thanks for your effort and advise it was well appreciated.
Yep something else is going on. I'd definitely run a virus scan and maybe one of those registry programs. I have good success with Regestry Mechanic. It always finds lots of things out of place and then fixes them.
If you have XP you can sometimes do a system restore which will take your PC back to a point where everything worked. That saved me more than once.
