Have tried to follow ScubaPete's directions for using shrink and dvd decrypter, but can't use the backup or analysis buttons because they're grayed. I uninstalled shrink, downloaded again, and the same problem. Can't go into "file" because of the same problem.

maybe you got a corrupt install or download. Try to uninstall it and reinstall it. If that doesn't work, uninstall it and download it again and install that.

I've downloaded, installed, and uninstalled 3 times. Just finished going to bbmayo and downloading there...same problem. I've had no problem downloading and installing any other sofrware.

At what point exactly are you running into a problem? Can you provide the steps and where it fails or is the problem that you cant load Shrink at all?

The Backup! and Analysis stay greyed out until Shrink finishes analysing the DVD or DVD files you are trying to process. It sounds like you are not getting the first part of the process completed.
Once the analysis is completed you should have the movie listed under "DVD Structure" on the left side of the window and under "Compression Settings" on the right side you should have a Video, an Audio and Subpicture areas showing you some details about the movie.
The Analysis and Backup! icons should no longer be greyed out at this point.
Make sure you are getting the movie loaded into Shrink correctly. This is just a matter of placing the DVD in your PC, select "open Disc" and then select the drive which has the movie.

First of all, it won't read from "open disc"...it freezes at 13%. Secondly, I was trying to use the step by step guide that ScubaPete printed in this forum #79846. He says to use DVD Decrypter and then open shrink. Unfortunately, then, shrink won't open the files. Error message. (And at this point, I can't remember exactly what it says. Something to do with not being able to find the files.) So I'm stuck.
Maybe I should tell you that I'm trying to copy the "dreaded" movie "Hitch".

Did you rip your movie with Decrypter in file mode or iso, if you did iso then you have to go to the file tab and the open disk image.

The last time was in ISO and it's still there. I tried to open disk image from the file tab and got this: "shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid DVD navigation structure."

This can mean there is a problem with the IFO files. Try ripping again in file mode and then use the open files button on the toolbar. See if this makes a difference.

Funny I've also had problems w/ Shrink.
Many times I can't even get it to open on my PC.
I've had to uninstall & install about 8 times now .
After I install it will work for maybe 1 or 2 burns then, it won't open up again.
I also have Intervideo copy 3 , Clone DVD2,DVD Decrypter, & AnyDVD all on my PC. I don't if there's a conflict going on between softwares ??

@kate: You probably ripped the movie in ISO mode with Decrypter and are trying to click Open Files in Shrink to compress. That won't work. You need to click the File tab at the top, then click Open Disc Image.
@dabig: I read on Slysoft's site that sometimes AnyDVD will conflict with Intervideo products. I haven't experienced this personally but that may be what this is.

Success! I've worked with this movie for 2 weeks and I finally got it. Used AnyDVD and Shrink...it took awhile, but who cares? One thing that's puzzling, tho...I was able to copy it with DVD43 and 1 Click, and while I got the movie (and I only tried to copy the main movie), Chapter 1 never copied..it went directly to chap 2. I thank everyone for being there and being quickly responsive. I've learned something from all of you. Also fyi, I tried DVD Fab Decrypter at one point and it copied the whole movie beautifully except the sound and picture were distorted.
