I recently bought a brand new Dell Dimension 3000 computer that came with a cd/dvd burner, I got a copy of dvd shrink 3.2 and nero from a friend who swares by them. He has made to date at least 200 dvds with this software. I however have only had one dvd-r disc burn correctly on my computer. I have tried 9 other discs to be burnt and none of them have worked correctly. One of them was burnt from a defective original, so I understand that problem. However, the other 8 didnt work for other reasons. My computer started running extremely slow after I started burning movies. Can you please advise what to do? The last movie I tried to burn was a Godzilla dvd. Maybe it didnt burn because it is from a different region, but it was the american version I burnt. Also, the I get a message at the end of the backup process right before it asks me if I want to delete the movie files from my computer it says "burn unsuccessful due to copyright protection. Your help is greatly appreciated....p.s. would my computer running abnormally slow affect the copying process? could I have a virus that is affecting the copy process?

volsfan98 ,
Welcome to the forum. Shrink can not decrypt all of the newer movies so I suggest you d/l the 21 day free trial of AnyDVD or D/L DVDDecrypter ( last version) and rip the movie using it to HD. W/ AnyDVD you can now use Shrink to copy the movies.
Sounds like the other problem is your computer is going into PIO Mode instead of staying in DMA Mode. Go into device manager and verify this fact by looking at the Secondary IDE channels and see if there are any yellow flags up. If the problem oersists post the Nero log so we can look at it. Also use good blank media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim

@volfsfan98

I suggest you do what Car.Mike suggested and check out your DMA setting first. Here is a guide for that

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

Then go to this site and read through the other guides on various programs and using them

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html

AnyDVD is a program that just works in the background and breaks encryption, you can still use Shrink to encode and compress and then Nero or Decrypter to burn. You can also download CloneDVD2 the companion program of AnyDVD and it will encode, compress and burn.

im wondering about my blank DVD-R discs too. I got a great deal on a spindle of discs and did not investigate the brand. I got them on ebay and paid 25.00 for 100 discs... Was this to good to be true? I dont think though, the discs are the problem because ive made 2 quality discs using this brand. They did not come with a brand on them the ebay seller just said they were grade A quality discs. Also, I would really like to just use the DVD Shrink 3.2 and Nero only if possible because it seems to be the easiest method and I have friends who only use these two programs and have burned lots of new and older movies with them with no problems. Maybe if I sort out the DMA setting this will resolve the issue.

@vols

i would seriously consider running a MEDIA ID CODE check using either dvdinfopro, dvd identifyer, Nero info tool, or even DVD Decrypter...POOR quality media is one of THE most frequent causes of unsuccessful burns.

good quality media goes a LONG way in having successful burns, i also recommend you NOT purchases ANY more media from ebay, there are a LOT of fakes and VERY poor quality media that sellers pass off as being "GRADE A" like you stated...$25/100...that is a good deal, but, sometimes you get what you pay for...since you can obviously buy media online, check out www.supermediastore.com as they are reputable and highly regarded as a trusted online retailer for GOOD media...for $32/100 you can get authentic Taiyo Yuden media 4x TYG01s, and these are GREAT...much better than ANY inexpensive media that you could find off ebay for only a few dollars more~

also, check the firmware for your drive as well as the DMA settings as mentioned by the other members here...the DMA settings will most likely be the solution to your computer slowing down since you started burning...firmware update will ensure you burner can read the newer medias properly~ :) good luck

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Just posting an update for this problem. I have talked to dell corporation since I last posted to this forum. My problem was not Nero or DMA related. Believe it or not it was a virus scan issue. I had Norton Internet Security Center on my computer from the factory and did not know that by downloading my own preference of virus scan software(mcafee stinger), I had two virus scan programs cancelling each other out and causing errors on my computer which resulted in high cpu usage and slow running programs on the computer. Since then I have burnt four successful dvds and Im really happy with the quality. One last question for this particular post. I have a go video dvd/vcr combo player in my bedroom and a sony dvd player in my living room. When I began burning good copies the go video player would track up almost immediately and find the menus and previews and extras. However, the sony dvd player which is the better quality of the two, would only find the movie and would not play any previews or extras on the copies. If I open and closed the dvd player about every other time it would at least find the movie. But on the other tries it would say no disc or it would flash an error of c1300 at the bottom of the blank screen. Im pretty sure the sony is ready to be replaced because it is suppose to support dvd/cd/vcd so its about 7 years old and probably time to get a new and improved player. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks......
