Im not sure if this is in the right forum but ill go ahead:

When I go to burn a DVD+R my burner (NEC ND-2500A) starts to burn the disk. Today I tried burning two copies of the same film, the first at 4x and the second at 2x speed. The first one came out badly scratched and played but in slow-mo and the second played but paused and juttered occasionally. Do you have any suggestions?

Sounds like something is misaligned in your drive, you can try blowing some canned air in it and see if it works, or check the tray and make sure it is closing properly.

P.S. I have been trying to burn a DVD+RW with Nero 6 Ultra Edition and it never seems to work! Is there anything special I need to do? NOTE: This is the first time ive ever tried burning a RW!

also, what kind of DVD+R media are you using...meaning, brand name or media id coding...this could prove to be very beneficial to your burning journey if you use GOOD, HIGH quality media~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I am using 'Maxell DVD+RW' and 'Maxell DVD+R' is that good or bad?

maxells are generally regarded as pretty good, i consider them decent personally, but not on the same level as Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim from my OWN experiences...

also, media codes are different on the maxells depending on where they were made...do you by chance know if your media was made in taiwan or made in japan? i prefer the japanese ones personally...you could find out by using a media identifier program such as dvdinfopro to find out the media coding...

www.dvdinfopro.com run one of those maxells through the program after you download and install it, it will tell you the coding...

i have a nec3520a and maxells work just fine with it, but my pioneer drive is somewhat more picky...but, as long as you use good media, you should be fine...to touch up upon your initial question in the thread...your blank media SHOULD NOT be coming out "scratched", as arniebear suggested, it seems like there is something misaligned INSIDE your drive, whether it be the lens or some other internal components...canned air MIGHT work, but if your burner is producing these "scratched discs" it might be time for a replacement...how long have you had this burner? it sounds like it's on it's last leg...

thanks alot for your help, this morning I managed to burn a +RW at 4x and it was a success but it still came back out pretty scratched!

Do you reccomend I take my drive to bits and clean it?

If you are getting scratched disks there is something catching on the inside, checking out the inside might be the only recourse you have, or as kivory suggested it might just be time for a new one.

yes, good luck from me too~ :) taking the drive apart is a little extreme if you don't have prior experience in doing so, but, hey, it can't hurt right? if it is about time to get a new burner, dismantling your old one can only offer your MORE experience and knowledge for the future...hehe.
