I know this has been asked in a different thread, however, the guy who asked the question seems to be going down a slightly different path than me. I read his thread and did what was suggested, but problem persists.
here it is....
DVDSHRINK takes 1 to 1.5 hours to encode... Is this normal? i tried fixing this and here is my report.
I defragged my hard drive --- Still goes slow
Registry clean. I downloaded regseeker and ran it but I'm not sure if I did it right. I basically just clicked "Clean the registry" and let it run then when it was over i closed out of the program. For some reason I don't feel that this is right.
MemTest ---> Memtest confuses the hell out of me. I have to burn files to a cd? This is the only thing I haven't fully completed yet, I will follow instructions, try it, and post results, but what exactly does this even do?
No other programs are running and my PC isn't even hooked up to the internet. I cleared out all the Spyware i could with adaware....
Am I missing anything else?
I hear of people encoding in like 20-30 minutes.... I WANT TO DO THIS TOO!!!
Yep, Yep

Rip DVD to harddisk using DVDDecrypter in File Mode.
Run DVDShrink on those files, ideally directing the output to a second harddisk (on a different controller).
Burn the output 'at your leisure' as required.
Running Shrink directly on your optical drive is slow, and extremely hard on your optical drive.

As OGS said - rip to the HD, then use DVD Shrink to burn. I have found that using my very cool new LG 4163 DL burner I am both ripping more quickly - sometimes as fast as 5x - and writing in the 20 - 30 minute range. Good luck, Wardzone

My burning process isn't necessarily slow, i can get it done from 20-30 minutes. (Is that slow?)
So I have 2 harddrives.... you're saying I should rip to one (C) and then encode to the other (D)? and it should go faster? I'll try that once the Memtest is done.... its been running for an hour now...

What do you mean by this? should I have DVD Shrink on my secondary drive? Can you eleborate on this?

Quote: Rip DVD to harddisk using DVDDecrypter in File Mode. Run DVDShrink on those files
Do not run Shrink directly on a DVD in your DVD drive. (I don't know how much clearer on this point I could be :^)
If you have C:\ and D:\ yes you should read the DVD files from the former and write Shrink output to the latter: as long as they are on separate controllers.
This means if the first HD is master and the second is slave, on the same controller, it will not help! If the same controller must read from one HD and write to the other, obviously it cannot do this at the same time, so it is as if you were using only 1 harddisk.
I write the Shrink output files to a Video_TS folder on my HD, not an ISO (although I could) and I then burn compliant DVDs using Nero.
ISOs work too - the point is, don't output Shrink directly to your burner, write the output to HD. Then burn at your convenience, as the spirit moves you...

Guys.... wow.... i got it!! Thanks!!!
Let me just clairfy what I did so that future people with this problem can read and understand....
I did the metest, the registry scan and the defragg, but i don't think thats what was it..
What i was doing before is that I was putting the dvd i wanted to rip in my dvd PLAYER.... not the dvd burner.... so when dvdshrink was reading the dvd it was reading it from my dvd-rom drive.... and i guess its really slow.... so i pput the dvd into the burner for it to be ripped and i combined that with saving the encoded files onto my D drive rather than my C drive and now my encoding time is 30 minutes instead of 1 hour

Ugh... guys.... false alarm.... its still going slow.... see.... the dvd i was using was "Its a Wonderful life" and it was encoding in 30 minutes, but then i realized it was already under 4.7GB... so i put in Rocky..... and yea.... its back to encoding at like 1 hour and 15 minutes...... what a bummer....

Okay... I noticed soemthing else.... When i start up DVD Decrypter it says that it finds 1x dvd-rom and 1x dvd+-RW/R ...... Does this mean my dvd burner and reader is only set for 1x???? I know for a fact my burner is at least 4x. its a DRU-500AX.
Whats the deal with this??

This use to happen to me, but only because it was on my old computer and it was an old and slow computer.

In DVDDecrypter, be sure you have "Write Speed" set to "Max" and that it is finding the proper drive (in the drop-down menu). Obviously we don't know your hardware details but run the appropriate s/w to be sure the DVD is being allowed to read/write at the max the media is capable of.

Okay..... The pproblem really isn't that DVDDecrypter is going slow.... its not... i can rip the files onto my harddrive in like 30 minutes (is that considered slow?).... The process that takes an hour is when i encode it using dvdshrink to fit on a dvd.... THAT is what goes REALLY slow.... I've tried this two ways.... The first way I put my dvd in the drive and just opened it with DVD Shrink and encoded it.... takes long..... then I ripped the files using DVD Decrypter and then opened the files in dvdshrink to encode it.... DVD Shrink does not go any faster when i do this, ad this actually makes the overall process slower because DVD Decrypter takes 30 minutes to do its job.
I think that since DVD Shrink goes slow even when i already have the files on my computer beforehand, it proves that it isn't a matter of my dvd-rom drive being slow... its something else.... but what?

wardzone : Setting the speed to "max" causes problems, usually you should have it set on 4x or 2x.
Drewman: can you try to pop the dvd in and use dvd decryptor and write it on your HDD as an .iso file and then use DVD Shrink to compress an .iso file (your movie) and see how that goes.

ugh..... I'm lost here... I don't know what else to try....
I'm the box my dvdburner cam in and it says that its can read dvds at 8x... and the dvd-rom that came with my computer, i can't find its specs.
Though... the long encoding time can't be a drive speed issue.... can it? because right now I have Rocky encoding.... no dvd is in any drive, it is encoding the files i ripped with dvddrecrypter... and it is taking over an hour.
The 2 hard disk techique doesn't look like its going to work either, i must have one set as a slave...
I would look into all this "firmware" talk i am reading on the guide,,, but again.... i don't think its an issue with my dvd-rom drive being slow 9I know i've said that 3 times already but i could be wrong)...
What on earth can be slowing this down? i feel like i've done eveything... I'll post everything i know about my comp....

Thanks, whats the company make of that computer? my OLD computer had the EXACT specs and it was an IBM Netvista and it would go exactly like your computer and took around 1 hour to encode.

Argh..... So is it just that my computer is slow? or is there something I can do?
Also... I'm trying to make the ISO file, but when i select what files i want to ripp in decrypter i can only slect one file... what if I want more than just the feature movie?

Do you know how to make an .iso from dvd decrypter?
1. Open dvd decrypter
2. Go to Mode ---> Iso ---> Read R and click that one and then put your disk in and then click the "Disk to HDD" icon and wait
I think you choose .iFo thats why ;)

Okay, got it.... so i'm making the ISO file right now.... but the speed is bouncing all over the place, from 1x tp 6x and at times it says 20 minutes and at times it says an hour and 40 minutes..... there is no way to determine how long this is actually going to take....
While I wait....Is there anything else i should try? I mean... lets assume this isn't going to work... do i just have a slow computer and that is that? or can i try something else?

Okay.... this isn't working.... because now the time is around an hour, so its going to take about an hour to make this ISO file..... defeating the purpose of making any encoding process go faster.

okay... wow.... now its taking like 2 hours to do what is once did in 1:20..... What did I do? I just want to go back to the 1 hour encoding time..... ugh.... i was being selfish and greedy thinking i could speed burn.... haha...
but seriously..... this is stressing me out.... i don't even care about the 1 hour encoding time anymore.... i was living with it just fine... and i have a slow computer... so i ACEEPT!!! I ACCEPT!!!...
ANy idea how i can just make it go back to how it was? because now it takes like 2 hours.

Yes, you can install 512MB memory.
DVDDecrypter rips DVD files to HD in ~10-12 minutes for me.
You must use file mode, you cannot run DVDShrink on ISO file.
Lose the DVDRom, make your first HD primary master, make your second HD secondary master, slave your DVD burner to secondary controller.
If OS is on primary HD C:\, place swapfile on secondary HD D:\
In this config you would rip DVD to C:\ (uses separate controllers) not D:\.
Then output Shrink files to D:\ (uses separate controllers).
Gotta go - huge lightning storm comin' through ;^(
