DVD shrink not able detect dual layer DVD -+RW drive for back up

I had Dell Deminson 8400 system with Philips DVD +-RW (DVD 8631). When try to burn DVD-5 suze fit imgae into DVD-5 +r DVD using the DVD shrink (Nero) in the back up pull down menu It does not show up this Drive. If I put extenal (USB) DVD burner it does detect it.

But I know I could brun one and only time using DVD shirnk and the Philips DVD burner. My subsequent attempts never succeeded. It does recognize this drive for Open Disc menu though. Very interesting..

Any ideas? any known issues in this regard ?
Please let me know if you any suggestions.
(DVD shirnk verion I am using is 3.2.0.15)

Lots of info about your phillips 8631 burner,but most of it is because of bad phillips drives that dell put into their pcs.That thread may help you.

do you have DVD43? I donw load this program before and it make my Dell drive or even the Sony external can not see the disc, after I unload it they read fine

Thanks guys, that helps. Well that thread looks scary. I am also fed up with dell support Last weekend Spent for more than 5 hrs on phone waiting for Dell support and I was told I need make another call during week days...

Any way I upgraded the Nero and it seems to detect the drive. I was also able burn two DVD's too!. But my subsequent attempts says "unknown media" in the drive. I am using TDK 8x DVD the we get in costco ( I always by my DVD -R's in costco).

They are burning excellent with my external sony DVD burner (until recently) except I see some glitches in the bruned DVD's once in a while. Aslo with the sony bruner off late I see some toasted DVD's and all of them or after bruning completes 100% and just before writing lead out. it complains about focus error. No idea what the problem with that is. So thought of switch to the other burner I had ( Philips) but that seems even more worse.

With Nero I could not use it directly (I had demo copy) it says my demo period expires even though I tried down load the latest version few days back.
