Shrink can't read scratched disc - Roxio and DVD43 Solution

I have used the Shrink/Decrypter combination to successfully backup many of my DVDs. A problem sometimes occurs when the original DVD is scratched or in bad condition and Shrink is not be able to analyze it (these disks will still play OK on my set-top DVD player). The alternative is to try ripping the files using Decrypter and then go back to Shrink. Sometimes this works OK. However, sometimes even Decrypter cannot cannot read the bad original DVD. When this happens I found that I can still make a backup using Roxio Disc Copier (part of Easy Media Creator) and the latest version of DVD43.
Roxio Disc Copier is able to compress and burn the DVD on-the-fly while encryption is automatically removed by DVD43 running in the background. Has anyone else tried this combination for bad discs? It works for me.
