hi:

I hope that someone with more knowledge than me can be of assistance. I have been backing up my collection with Shrink. I only backup the main movie with no subtitles. I always choose 2 channel English audio on old movies because that is all thats available. On new movies I choose ONLY AC3 5.1 English.

When a movie also has DTS 5.1 English I have never been able to get the sound track to play on my bedroom setup. Let me state what I have in both my bedroom and family room.

Family room has a yamaha rx-v1400 with a Sony standalone that has DTS capability. I am using the optical out of the sony to the Yamaha and everything is peachy. I get true DTS sound from my 6 speakers. The problem is the bedroom. I have the same Sony with DTS capability hooked directly to a JVC 26" LCD TV. I am using component for the video and since I dont have a receiver I am using the composite audio direct from the Sony to the JVC.

Now I understand that I cant get dts but if I also copy a 2 channel audio stream should I get 2 channel sound? The sony has a setting in ADVANCED under Dig. output you can choose dolby digital or D-PCM. Dont know what that is.

I just backed up K-PAX which has ac3 5.1, dts 5.1, french and an english 2 channel. So I only checked the dts 5.1 and the eng. 2 channel and after messing in the advanced settings I was able to get the directors comments. Am I to assume I did it correctly but on this particular movie there is no 2 channel for the movies dialogue? Thanks...

PennsylvaniaRon

2 Channel audio is your "Directors Commentaries" and "Extras" audio dialog. AC3 5.1 Ch is the movie dialog audio, and it will be automatically down mixed to 2 Channel if the receiver is not capable of playing 5.1.

There is no down mixing DTS audio, either you are capable of playing DTS or you aren't.
