Hello folks. First post here, I did some searching but haven't found an answer, so here goes. I am trying to backup Bonnaroo 2003 disc 1.
It is a Sony disc. First thing I notice that is strange is that DVD Decrypter doesn't find any encryption on the disc?? Anyway, I burn it to my HD in ISO mode, no problems. The ISO file size is 7.32 GB. Open up DVD Shrink and everything looks fine, I can play it, etc...With the comp. settings at automatic, it offers a 49.7% compression rate with a resulting ISO file of 2.8 GB (which I thought seemed a little small, 49% of ~7.3GB is ~3.6GB). When I hit backup (create ISO then set to burn with DVDD), I get a message saying that the resulting file might be too big to burn, do you want to continue (or something like that). I continue, and the resulting ISO is 4.55 GB, which is slightly too big to burn?? I tried using DVDD in file mode and had the same problem. I have a feeling that Sony has some pretty slick stuff embedded in this disc, as it is a jamband disc, with fans that are VERY savvy when it comes to copying stuff. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thats too much compression for shrink. Try reauthor mode movie only or remove any extras and unwanted/unneeded audio streams. Is that a movie or what? If you can't remove extras run it through shrink 1st time saving it to a hdd folder then run it through again. Quality will probably be poor.

Yes, it is a concert film. Reauthor is not an option as "title one" is basically the only thing on there besides the menu and that too becomes the same size (4.55GB). I've never had a problem with Shrink compressing in the auto mode before. This one has me stumped.

Sounds like a good candidate for dvd-rb with hc encoder. Dvd-rb beta vs has an installer and is still free (for the time being) and hc encoder comes bundled in the installer pack. I've encoded full length dvd9's down to DVD5 with these (although I used CCE encoder) and can notice very little (if any) loss in video quality on my 52" HDTV. The link is in my sig.
