I KNOW that this has been discussed somewhere, but my searches have proved unfruitful, so please excuse if this is a duplication. Shrink has always worked quite well for me, but I'm having a heck of a time with backing up my copy of "Hide and Seek." There have been a number of problems with this disk because of its alternate endings. I have the movie decrypted and on my hard disk, so there was absolutely no problem decrypting it with DVD Decrypter. The problem has come with encoding it with Shrink. Shrink gets from 90-99% encoded and then gives me the message that it cannot continue because it's "out of memory." Since then, I have re-formatted my hard drive (not because of this problem...it's just something I do every once in a while to make the computer run better) so I figured that that might solve it. Well, Shrink does run much faster now, but the problem still exists. So, I tried placing the file on another drive (an external harddrive) and tried it from there. No luck. Then, I tried saving the image file to the external drive. Same message. Again, I remember reading about this before, so I know that others have had the same problem. Has anyone solved it? What did you do? Is there another encoding program like Shrink that has better luck with this?

Download this free 21 day trial of AnyDVD by slysoft. This ripper works in the background and will help DVD Shrink rip through those sony arrcos encryption. No extra steps needed.Just download, turn it on and you'll see the little fox icon in the lower tray.

Also, turn off every background program that you can while doing any of the dvd backup process. That will free up some memory.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm trying them one at a time. Update: Any DVD did nothing. Same error message. On to the next thing. I'll keep updating.

The problem with Hide and Seek is that it is a movie with 8 different endings, so it shows like 8 titles. I had the same problem with the movie and just ended up picking one title and doing that one. IMHO the movie was not that great very predictable, The Shining is much better.

Good news. Clone DVD2 worked! I think Any DVD didn't work because I was working with a file on my hard drive which had already been decrypted. It probably would do fine with the DVD itself...decrypting it that is...but that wasn't the problem. The problem was encoding or "shrinking" the DVD. Evidently, DVD Shrink, which hasn't been updated lately, can't handle this type of disk. Clone looks like a good program. I may purchase it if these types of DVD's continue to be made. And, you're right: probably after all that I won't like the movie any way. But, that really wasn't the point. It was something I couldn't do, and--damn it--I WANTED to do it! So, a victory for now. Thanks for all the help guys. This is a great website. (I still miss the Decrypter Forum, though.)
