I propose we have a list, ranking all media in this thread. Based on results and brand name.
Like Tyos would be #1 and so forth
what about prodisc and ritek? rather unknown brand names. For people on a budjet.

no, not a good deal, printable Verbs should run you about 25 per 50 pack, and regular like 14-20.

Those are Fuji made in Taiwan. I'd stay away and would only by Fuji's made in Japan which usually code out as being TY's. I'd also stay away from those TDK's - you can get better media cheaper.
Here's some good online sites to buy from:
http://www.supermediastore.com/ http://www.rima.com/ http://www.meritline.com/
My ranking would be:
1. TY
2. Verbatim DataLifePlus
3. Sony or Fuji (made in Japan only)

Here is what I prefer/like as in order. Honestly, I would rank the Maxell and Verbatim both at 2nd equally, but somehow I've had more experiences with Maxell than the Verbs that's all. In reality, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell are all top notch media.
01) genuine Taiyo Yuden (DVD+R including both Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan")
02) Maxell (DVD+R "Made In Japan" by Hitachi, code: Maxell-002-00)
03) Verbatim (MCC003 & MCC004)

1. Taiyo Yuden- 4x TYG01s DVD-R, 8x TYG02s DVD-R, 8x YUDEN000T02 DVD+R (im actually NOT TOO FOND of the 16x TYG03s DVD-R and have yet to use any 16x DVD+R yet, i stick to my MCC004 Verbs for 16x discs)
2. Verbatim (MCC003/MCC004 8x/16x DVD+R respectively- as alkohol pointed out earlier:)
3. Ritek G05s 8x dvd-r
4. i've had fair success with Maxell in both 8x dvd-r/dvd+r MADE IN JAPAN ones, but i don't have very many...only 100 each~ :) so my testing on them is NOT extensive like the aforementioned 3
those are the only ones i will personally recommend to use (the above 4), i've had horrible luck with TDK media (their own TT coding on media) and also bad luck with prodisc and optodisc...fake TYs i won't even start my rant on and the BOTTOM of the rung CMC MAG manufactured discs...dont' even get me started....
Recommended Media:
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I've used those comp usa's. The picture quality is not that great
with these and they work fine, but I am told they do not last long.
(haven't failed on me yet)
Buy Maxells (made in japan), Verbs, Fuji's (madein japan)...
Imations and TDK's work for me as well.

i'll have a bash. i've rated mine in this order so as to give a more accurate view -
Verb 8x -R (MCC02RG20) : have used about 1500 of these
TY 8x -R (TYG02) : have used 100 of these
Verb 8x +R (MCC003) : have used quite a lot of these
Verb 16x +R (MCC004) : have used 25 of these
Verb TY 8x -R (TYG02) : up & coming as just bought 400 of these but not used yet
Ritek 8x -R (G05) : up & coming as just bought 50 of these but not used yet
from what i read about Fuji, Maxell and Sony i'd try varieties of them but i can't find any in the UK. I'm trying out Ritek G05 after reading gurnard & kivory666 talk about them so often.
It's taken me long enough to wean off using just Verbs after my 500 horrendous experiences with Bulkpaq Orange 8x (FAKE TYG02) so i am very careful about trying out new stuff.

2ND CLASS MEDIA
Decent discs, though not perfect, about 80-95% success rate:
PRODISC = Prodisc Media (Taiwan) = (-R)(+R)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh (Taiwan) = (+R)(+RW)
FUJIFILM = Fuji = (-R)(+R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R)
RITEK = Ritek (Taiwan) = (+R)(-R)(-RW)(+RW)

Yep can certainly see. Trust me on this one stick w/ authentic TY's or Verbatim DataLifePlus.
But we still have got to get that firmware updated!
