There is no need to go dumpster diving at your local BlockBuster. Do what I do, just say your are from local college and explain too them that you are finding cases for your school video program. If they are like my BlockBuster, you will be instructed to come once a week (usually Wednesday's) and pick up a shit load of cases.

@BIGTOXY69 ... the "heavy breather" ... that would be me. I found a VERY good movie LOL!

Someone has sparked my interest; indeed, I've thought and thought about this: why would there be a lock on a VCR or DVD case?

@wolfboy....you're not going to school in some sort little town that enforces the law with nazi-like vigor, are you?

I ask because Ireland recently posted an article about these two guys from Wayne PA (about an hour or so west of Philly) who got six months in the clink for going through some restaurant's dumpster. I never knew it was illegal!

Edit: Aus, you use AD buddies from time to time, don't you? If so, what are the best times to check it out? I've checked it out a couple of times but it seems to be a real dud everytime I've tried it. Do you suppose I have body odor?

actually, they do, ger. but that's the reason god gave me fast legs and the ability to climb a chainlink fence like a ferret ^.^

i can't access the irc channel from school, as the *cough cough* magnificent IT services have banned it, but i can tell you the times from when i could. i'd say about 8-9 in the morning, your time, and again from about 8-10 at night.

@gerry1

The locks on the Blockbuster DVD cases are there so you can't open the case in the store and steal the disc and put the case back with the sensor that sounds the alarm. Believe me there is NO way to remove that yellow slide stick-lock without their tool(magnets)and that case will not open with it in place. Quite ingenious. I cut a locked one open at home that was empty, that they had given me.

@garmoon...I see; had to be some sort of logical explanation and I've never been to blockbuster video. You know, I don't recall ever going to any video store where they actually keep the DVD or the VHS Tape in the box...the box is empty...you bring the empty to the counter and they'll bring the disc or tape from the storge are. Maybe that's just a philly thing. Hope you're well and having a great weekend! ... Gerry

@Auslander ... I can see it now ... all these hi tech security devices and surveillance cameras to thawrt the garbage thief! Just be careful...we don't want Andy Taylor and Barnie Fife catchin' up with you!

On the Magic Yellow case lock @ BLOCKBUSTER ! Found 30+ Dvd cases with the movies and the Wambo Doojie yellow lock stick still in them ! Note ( Found as in dumpster ) and managed to save 2 dvd cases out of all of those with the stick lock coming out quite easy . Must have not been set properly. The others succumbed to hand tools and brute force ( Makes Tim allen Caveman Noise ) in hindsight a dremel tool and an assortment of cutters /bits would have speeded up the job and save some wear & tear on my hands & fingers but it got done !Git'R' done LOL! You may also be on the lookout for generic blockbuster covers stapled together kind of like an envelope ! found two of these Care packages and each contained a dvd movie in playable shape ! One was It's a wonderful life & the Other was some Hindi ( Bollywood? ) B&W movie . Go figure ? Good luck and Happy Diving !! CIAO!!

Hey I bet the resin floats to the top lol.

nah, but the water smelled like hell and was completely discolored. i supposes you could evaporate all the water and scrape out the oils.

lately the dumpsters have been lackluster.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

garmoon- I hear you buddy !

went yesterday & not much not even much trash ! I guess if we found cases & computers & Hookah's all the time we'd get spoiled ( Spoiled Garbage - A play on words Lol! ) anyhow I think it's like the old saying about gambling , If you won all the time they'd call it winning and not gambling ! It seems to come and go in waves - you find oodles of cases and then it dries up ! then Oodles again ! I guess we just have to ride the wave when it comes in ! Here's hoping Surf's Up for all of us - Good luck garmoon
& friends - Hey sounds like a Japanese kids Tv show !Happy diving !Ciao!

garmoon- I remember seeing a B'movie about a Viet Nam veteran who's buddy get's killed by street gang/thugs & he converted a garbage truck into a warwagon/ APC - Pretty decent for a B'movie but I don't remeber the title !- He uses the truck to get revenge for his buddy!

@Garmoon...guess I was showing my age there with the Andy Taylor and Barnie Fife comment! Auslander would be well fed though as "Ant Bea" delivers lunch.

We should picket or something: dumpsters should be nice and clean and only useful stuff should be allowed...that, or perhaps a "recycling bin" of a different sort.

Speaking of using trucks for revenge (though this ain't revenge, I guess): every tuesday morning, in downtown Philadelphia, they have this truck that looks like a gasoline tanker...it has this rotary sprayer on the back and it drenches the pavement in the street with the soapy water solution but you must be careful because it covers half the sidewalk as well. You can tell the locals from the burb folks or the tourists because the locals know whats coming and duck while the others get drenched. You'd think they have the sense todo that at the wee hours but they wait until rush-hour. I never could figure out the purpose of spraying soapy water on the road surface; must have a purpose other than cleaning.

gerry1-The soapy water may have not been for cleaning so much ,perhaps but to keep down dust- although if you have paved - roads that should'nt be too nuch of a problem ! Crushed rock, Gravel, Ballast ect... That turns to dust/ powder quite quickly ,particularly when driven over by heavy vehicles- and when it's dry like sumnmer time It's dustbowl days again in Oklahoma !!!! maybe a combination of cleaning & dust prevention! Or perhaps the sreet people just refuse to bathe LOL!!!! maybe the mayor's brother owns a bodyshop & soapy streets cause more accidents? Ponderous isn't it? Anyhow good luck ,Dive safe, Be happy !

Also, the little black bar at the top, click on "My Account", at the left. Then go down and click on "See List Of Your Forum Posts", 5th link down under "Functions". Can get here very easily, that way too.
In case you're not familiar with that, it show's every post you've ever made here. Easy to find them all.

Of course, stickied would be nice too. But remember..... they locked the thread for awhile, because somebody complained. It was right after nailedny posted about barfing. :o)

I had to almost beg a mod to reopen it. That's when he moved it here. So, I kinda doubt they'll make it a stickie.....
