I haven't heard a release date for an updated version of JF. But I'd bet you it will be right around ix1.6.

Hiya i currently have ixtreme 1.51 installed on my xbox, would i need to update to firmware 1.6 to play future games or will 1.51 be ok?

Please bear in mind that i dont go on xbox live to play games and only connect to live to download additional content such as map packs from the marketplace. So therefore if 1.6 is only security updates and does not have any compatibility updates to play future game would i need it at all if i don't play on xbox live?

Cheers

Of course add security is always a plus, but since you're playing on live then maybe not for you.

Yeah, anytime you ever connect to xbox live, you're at risk. Update to 1.51 and if you want to rip your own games, then update to 1.6 when it comes out.

Just from what I have read, it looks like the only way to take advantage of the SSv2 (enhanced security) is to have your drive flashed with ix1.6, then go ahead and rip a game. I'm guessing programs will have to be updated to take advantage of the SSv2 feature also. So for all your games burned previously before ix1.6, will still be SSv1. So... no security enhancements if you are playing a SSv1 backed-up game... unless ix1.6 can do something on the fly.

@leerage,

So that means you only need ix1.6 if you want to backup games with your Xbox DVD drive, right?

I hope not. This would suck if you have to reburn all your games. Lots of coasters. I would think this wouldn't matter since abgx is all you run the iso through anyway.

so has there been an definitive explanation of what SSv2 is cause i havent seen one so readinf what you just said doesnt make much sense. do you mean previous methods of backing up discs were flawed and not using correct ss files??? im confused as to how ssv2 could be assciated with older games

Features will include:
-Strict Wave 3 compliance! hybrid (modified disks) will not boot!
-Strict drive speed compliance - 12x only for game discs!
-Support for SS V2!
-Integrated 0800 for game dumping including SS v2!
-Full support for all known game exceptions! eg ddr etc!
-One shot boot mode! - allows a one off boot of gamedisc without -stealth/partition checks (will still use stealth), use activate.iso disk -to activate each time!
-Support for easy drive key/version info cmd, same as liteon!
-Strict stealth/wave checking, one shot boot mode will boot wave(x)!

My previous post was just speculation. I'm sure everything will get cleared up once ix1.6 is released.

But what I was saying is that all ripping methods right now only use SSv1. So all the game rips are SSv1. So what ix1.6 will allow is used to ripped games using SSv2. So after you rip a game with ix1.6, you will have a back-up with SSv2 embedded in it.

Like I said, that is just MY speculation. Anybody feel free to join in...

ok well i understand that but my question is where does SSv2 come from? is this something thats always been on the disc but just couldnt be ripped properly or is SSv2 referring to a new method of ripping and injecting SS files?

I'm guessing a new way of ripping the Security Sectors, DMI, PFI, etc.

To take advantage of SSv2, you would need a back-up that was ripped with SSv2 along with ix1.6. That is my guess. Unless ix1.6 can do something on the fly.

I just got to thinking.. with this new implementation of SSv2, if the people working with ABGX360 are up to re-ripping security info (I know that would a BUNCH) :)... but once the database is updated with all SSv2, any time you run an iso that was ripped SSv1, ABGX360 would patch it with SSv2. Just a thought.
