What do your "files" consist of?
There should be ".vob", ".ifo", and ".bup" files for DVD Shrink to open them. It cannot be just a .VOB file.

They are movie clips edited using Nero movie maker.

Dvd Shrink will not recognize MPEG file format.
Use nero to Export your file into another format. Try to export it to Divx. Then use VSO Divx2DvD to convert to .vob files.
After you edited the commercials how big was your file? You can also set your TV tuner card to capture at a lower resolution.
Lower Resolution = Smaller file size!
Hope this helps. Try Divx2DvD! It works like a charm.
you can get it here...

If you used Nero to edit the Mpeg files, just use Nero to complete the job by using "Creating a DVD" but burn it to your Hard Drive insead of a disk.
THEN, you will have a DVD file on your Hard Drive that is too large for a disk,BUT will be useable by Shrink.
I do it all the time, and it's simple as 1, 2, 3.. Although I use Nero Recode 2 instead of Shrink, the process is exactly the same. I just happen to like the Recode 2 reslults better.

Recode 2 is better. (Why shouldn't be, he is getting paid to do this program, unlike DVD Shrink.)
Recode 2 is faster also.
