The only other way is Swap Magic or A hard drive with HD Loader.

And you cant burn them. You need an orignal copy. Also with the swap magic disc you will need a slide tool or a fliptop to swap the disc.

How it works: you place swap magic in, it loads up then stops waiting for you to put the backup game in then it loads the game.

You CANNOT just burn a PS2 game and play. You have to have a mod to do it is some way.

You can load backups using Action Replay Max, GameShark of Swap Magic - do a search for these.

I recommend ARMAX as your purchase for it - available in a store every 10mile radius practically!

You can do this stuff cheaply, but it IS difficult and you DO need to buy at LEAST 1 product - no way around that i'm afraid.

And all of these "non-mod" methods require a flip top or a swap-tool (which you can conveniently make from a plastic card).

swap magic is really cheap. i got mine for £17 off ebay with slide tool its almost too easy to use. and actually backing up a game successfully is harder and more expensive. but remember you NEED the origional disk otherwise its piracy!!!! no going to your local rental place and ripping the games (you'll end up killing the industry, LOL like any body would do that seriously #@cough#@)

Yeah I understand not wanting to spend any money on a mod solution, however the alternative is this: http://www.geocities.com/raibee/knife.html Sticking a knife in your PS2 and prying the disc tray open. One false move and say sayonara to your eject motor. Notice the guide says if you are unsure of this, DO NOT ATTEMPT. You can pick up swap magic and a flip top bundled for about $40 from a myriad of sites. Why risk damaging your PS2 just to save a few bucks. If your gonna play back ups or imports, do it right, pick up SMD and a flip top.

You can't burn swap magic, you need an original pressed disc to use it. It is burned with intentional bad sectors that your CD writer will automatically correct, preventing people from copying it. Check here to confirm: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/218931
This question gets asked a lot. The answer for Can I burn Breaker Pro or Swap Magic is always NO.

Well then why can action replay play burnt disk.I understand but the action replay should stop it from looking for the badsector thats on the disk but if it does that then it should be able to play back up copys of games.Well I dont really care but if you didnt try it with action replay then how would you know if it would not work. There has to be a way. thanxs peace

I did try to burn breaker pro and it doesn't work. I tryed making a backup copy of my breaker pro and downloading an image for it off the net. I then did some research and read in a gazillion forums from people who know a lot more about this stuff than I do, that you CAN NOT burn a copy of breaker pro or Swap Magic. Feel free to try, I'm just trying to save you a lot of wasted energy. Did you even read the link I posted? Pro Action replay, Breaker Pro, and Swap Magic operate on a simillar principal: when the PS2 scans the boot sector of the disk, it "fools" the Ps2 into thinking that the game is an original. If you burn Swap Magic to disk then it'll sit there and say put in a PS2 format disk! If you really want that excitement then go ahead. If you think I'm some blowhard who doesn't know what the f--k he's talking about then try searching these forums or googling how to burn Swap Magic. Later

I think was a little rude earlier gamer, this question of can you burn Swap Magic gets brought up a lot though. The only way to boot it is with another copy of swap magic. The code isn't gonna boot with an ARMAX as it still won't read the "bad sector" because it is a copy of a copy. You can boot DVD backups with Swap Magic DVD. It comes with a CD boot and a DVD boot. I won't pretend to be an expert on Swap Magic, but I am about %90 sure the only way to boot it is on a modded PS2 or with an original Swap Magic disc. I think there is an exploit that will allow you to boot it, but that is way out of my area of expertise. It is relatively inexspensive and and works well with a flip top. You can pick em up bundled for around $40. Here is some installation info for Swap Magic and a flip top, if you're interested: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/swapmagic/page1.cfm I reccomend the flip top if you're gonna purchase it, the slide card is cheesy. DVD9 format games (like Xenosaga) are incompatible with Swap Magic DVD. From what I have read it boots around %90 of backups and imports. Take care.

Hey man I hear you it gets a little out of hand with the swap magic theres like 100 threads on it and its shit its cool dont worry about it.Thing is how can a action replay max play burned games and im not talking about roms fuck that shit I can do that on my computer. But why does it say can only read cd-r and not say it can read dvdrs.Becuase shit I dont want to go out and spend $30 bucks on something take it home and not work for what I want it to.That would be a waste of my time and I made a slide card all ready they made that shit sound like you had to buy it I lol. I said fuck that shit $2 when i can get a old credit card. But will I still need to use a slide card with action replay max and one more thing have you used it before.PEACE

Cog Swap Loader Exploit or Swap magic without making major mods to ur console , but for that u must unclip the front part of the disc tray.

Explanation
Cog Swap Loader : is an exploit which is nearly just like swap magic (but free) but unfortunaltly u need to make ur own slide tool (i use a thin peice of metel)
Swap Magic:much more easier then Cog Swap Loader , is a disk ( about $50 in australia ) and comes with an official slide tool and is basic to use

I personaly use Cog Swap Loader to boot ma CD-R and DVDR games

wasnt i banned?

Yeah, most ps2 versions can load cogswaploader.elf through Action Replay Max's media player (running off a cdr or pendrive attached to your usb port) - this will load your burnt cds and dvds the same as Swap Magic. You do need to make your own slide tool though, which is not difficult.

No I have never used ARMAX or Swap Magic before. I have read a great deal about the latter, because I had to learn this disc swapping deal to play my PSX backups. That being said ARMAX and Swap Magic are very similar to Breaker Pro, and I know it and in out. I used the slide card extensively with Breaker Pro and hated it! I got a flip top and am very happy with the results and would never go back to thd slide card. That is my personal preference, however if you want to learn how to do exploits and use ARMAX to boot your backups then go right ahead. For info on removing the front cover of your PS2 check here: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm
This was a miscommunication, I thought you were asking if ARMAX will boot Swap Magic, the answer thru conventional means is no. However you were asking if ARMAX can boot DVD and CD backups, of that I have no idea. ARMAX is not my specialty I simply wanted to save people the trouble of burning Swap Magic and getting pissed when they realize it was a complete waste of time. Kamehameha. <later>

A little warning here, memory card exploits DO NOT WORK on slim ps2's *just thought i'd add that, just in case someone with a slim reads this and starts having grand ideas of not needing swapmagic or a modchip*

Sony found out and fixed the exploit... check some of the other threads on exploits, it's been mentioned several times before....
