no problem, really. after some newbie teething i think i've got the hang of using dvdd & dvdshrink. i've used dvdd to rip movies in iso & file mode & shrink to compress full discs or files (from dvdd) w/ good success after the excellent advice i got from the forum. my question is: is there an advantage in using dvdd to rip files to the hd then use shrink to compress (then burn) over just using shrink to do everything over just using dvdd to iso read then iso write?

Obviously if you are burning d/l media then DVD Decrypter would be the way to go.
There is no advantage to using Decrypter to rip the disc if Shrink will handle the encryption of the particular movie you are ripping. Quality of the end product is determined by the compression method used to reduce the size of the video files or image. You are using Shrink with either method so the results would be the same.

I'd go with the faster method.

There are other programs that provide better results. However the way you are doing it works for most folks just fine. Most of my movies were copied this way.
