I heard it is possible to size down a full movie in VOB format to about 1.5 GB. Is there a guide to do this, and about how many steps will it take? I can rip Dvds with Decrypter just fine, then I open the .ISO file and normally shrink it to a DVDR size. Is there a way to just shrink it to about 1-2 gigs? From what I heard you had to shrink it, then open that file and shrink it again, and do this like 3 times to get it a good size. Is there any truth to that?

Yes what you heard was true, it just usually isn't done due to the quality of the picture (sound, tracking, freezing) after all that compression.

I heard the quality is better than an Mpeg divx or xvid of similar size though. That's why it was so intriguing to me. I'm looking for the video codec that delivers the best quality for a file size under 2GB. What would this be, and is it possible to encode to this codec in one step? Thanks for all your help.

I see your point and I think it depends on your ultimate goal, an old DVD player at a friends house or your personal computer. Your computer has the programs to read these files that make them that small but the other player dosn't (usually) if you want to free up space on the hard drive look around at some of the other posts around here

I'm not good for that information a lot of people around here are but I can help with getting things to work on an old DVD player.

well thanks for trying. is there anyone else who knows how to size down VOB's to about that size and can comment on quality, or do you know of other codecs that render better quality of the same size? For the record, I'm asking this because I'm buying a PMP player, and it will only have 30 GB. To save space, I'm looking to size down the vids as much as possible, yet keep the highest quality possible. Thanks ahead of time on any input, and Deadrum, again, thanks for all the help you've already given.
