Ok, I know this is something familiar and lots of poeople here have the problem, but I can't figure out what's wrong. I was hoping someone could look at the error log and point out what might be giving me trouble. I have been able to succeed at burning DVDs with DVD Shrink for a long time and usually don't have any trouble. Over the past few weeks, I have been having more and more failures and I'm not quite sure why.

Anyways, here's the error. Any help is massively appreciated.

Welcome to aD!
First thing you need to do is edit the serial # from your post. It begins w/ 1A. Don't want someone to steal it!
Your problem is probably due to the media you are using:
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer: TTG02
Not a good one.
Quote:
SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND
Doesn't like those TTG02. Switch to some quality media like Fuji, Sony (look for made in japan) or Verbatim DataLifePlus.
Quote:
Power calibration error
Can also be caused by the media used.
Direct from Nero's site:
Quote:
* Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
* Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
* Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
* Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
* Send the recorder in for service.

hmmm...thanks for the info. Only thing is why have I been able to use these disks for over a year without trouble. My friend also uses the same disks and there have been DVDs that haven't worked on my PC but have worked on his.

One thing is I think my version of Nero is Nero Express and he has Nero 6 because it came with his Sony external Dual side burner.

I will try to check to see if my firmware is up to date on the drive.

thanks for the info tho, hopefully something will work.

my alienware desktop has a Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-105, 7-1-2001, 5.1.2535.0 drive according to my documents that came with the pc.

Checked firmware via a program from Pioneer:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105
Current Revision : 1.33
Release Date : 03/05/26
Model : Pioneer or Generic 3rd party model
Serial Number : ------------

This firmware is already latest version.
This firmware does not need to be updated.

Looks like the firmware is up to date...

I'm still curious why the same type of media work at my friends house and why I haven't had trouble before.

Using these disks:

Do you think I should just get a new burner? Mine is probably 2-3 years old now.

Bad media is a funny thing. It can work for a while, then go completely nuts. I can run Memorex DVD-R's in my Samsung DL DVD+/-RRW at 8x and it might error out once every 100 burns. With Maxell, god forbid I go above 4x, or I'll be pumping out costers. Notch up the media. Also make sure that Nero is up to date. I doubt the issue is your burner...

unless you've been using it a LOT. I've had burners that last 3 years being used 20 times a week.

My friends call me Spike.

Whatever happens, happens.

@ShockTXB
All burners are different - what one may like another may like. TDK uses different manufacturers - some that are pretty bad -so you never know who made them unless you run them thru Nero Toolkit and see who the manufacturer is. Funny there's another thread where the same media is being used and they also received errors. TDK's made by TTG02. Stick w/ the good stuff: Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim DataLifePlus. Not only do the burn well they also don't degrade. The quality of dye (azo) is better than what alot of manufacturers use.
Since your Nero is outdated I would also up date to the latest version of 6 - 6.6.0.16

Here's a link to upgrade to the latest. You should be able to upgrade package 1:
Nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://ww2.Nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

Their site can be pretty slow - so here's a link to another site (just package 1):
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2228

Post back your results good, bad or otherwise.
Happy burning!

I just tried to use Nero to burn, once the files were encoded with Shrink and that worked. STrange. So I guess once it's encoded with Shrink, I can try to just start Nero and add the files from the folder and burn that way. That make sense?

I am new at these logs, but i will give it a go...
It still looks like the media is giving you an error

Maybe you could try a +R instead of a -R, and some different brand.

I always have problems, and make coasters when i try Nero's disc at once (for me it should be called coaster at once :)~). Try un-checking that on your next burn and see if it helps.
You have plenty of memory, you were only burning at 4x, Let me check your firmware version and see if you are up to date:

Recorder: <PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105> Version: 1.33
and firmware site shows:

Yep, you look up to date on the firmware front.

There's that disc at once. You are not burning anywhere near the edge so that's fine.

There is where it shuts down, and it acts like it doesn't like your media (power cal error). I think those are TDK you were using, and they get mixed reviews around here. Try some Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, sony, maxell, and uncheck the disc at once when burning. I can't see anything else other than that. Looks like you are doing everything else right. Maybe the Nero Log Master, Creaky will find something we missed.

Thanks for the detailed info!

I might be asking another stupid question, but where do I uncheck Disk-At-Once? I don't see it anywhere in any options or settings when I go to backup using Shrink...

Sorry if that sounds dumb, It's 6am and I can't sleep...

Again, you guys have been lots of help!

The disc at once is a 'feature' of Nero - you can't click it off in shrink or nero. I think MaxBurn was referring to 'burn on the fly'.
Switch the media and hopefully all your burning probs will go away!

I also had this problem, created 3 new coasters myself. I found out I was running version 6.0 of Nero, updated to 6.6, problem solved.
