I have been experiencing the same slow down problem as many of you have for a minute I thought it was just me. I tried everything for uninstalling Secondary IDE to Defrag to Reg Cleaning and so on...
To make a long story short I use an NEC 16 x External drive and when I first got the thing I hook in the front usb ports and never had a problem, until I moved and I hook up in the rear usb port and the saga began. So if all else has failed and you are using external burners hook up in the front USB ports and hopefully it will help you out. Good Luck everyone I got my fingers crossed.

I question if that is an issue of USB 1.1 vs. 2.0. Are the front and back ports both 2.0? Because in the end they are on the same controller.

Hey I agree with you as well but its the only thing that has worked and until I did that it took 2hr 23min for B/Us. At least its worth a shot. Notice I did say possible. Good Luck.
