I use DVD shrink to burn my DVD's and have never really had any problems, but now I'm hearing a lot about this DVD decrypter program. Should I be using this program? I know you use the two programs together, but I don't know how or why. What does DVD decrypter do that DVD shrink doesn't?
ok as far as these 2 programs to simply explain it. Is like this.
1)DVD Decrypter
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This program breaks encryption on all DVD's and also u can use it as a burning program when u change the mode to ISO Mode.
2)DVD Shrink
---------------------------------------------------------------------
DVD Shrink basically compress the DVD from a Dual Layer to a single layer so you can fit it on a 4.7gig disc, also you can re aurthor with this program.
Thats basically what those programs mainly do.
Here are the guides that explain it better than that and in more detail.

DVD Decrypter is a program that bypasses copy protection and backs up the entire disc to you hard drive, where it can be burned to a 4.7gb DVD only.
DVD Shrink is a program that allows you to choose the content of the DVD that you want to back up and burn to disc in which you can use 4.7gb DVDR or Dual layer DVD (DVD-9).
DVD Dcrypter Pros-
excellent copy protection bypass.
back up in iso or file mode.
built in burning software.
DVD Shrink Pros-
Easy to use interface.
More control of quality of the of the backup.
DVD Shrink cons-
No copy protection bypass (ACCROSS).
No built in burning software.
When the two are used together they are an excellent combo for all your backup needs. What one doesn't do the other one does. Also shrink can be linked to decrypter's burn engine during settup so you can burn directly from shrink.
Actually, Shrink also decrypts, albeit not nearly as well as Decrypter. If you have Nero 6 on your computer, Shrink will piggy-back to autoburn your DVD at the end of the shrinking cycle.
I used to use Shrink/Nero only, but I have come to really like Decrypter. I don't use it to burn, though it does have that ability if the DVD you are burning to has a large enough capacity to hold the files you want (usually not the case if you are still using 4 gig DVDrs as I am on an 8 gig movie). What makes Decrypter great, for me, are the following:
1. It decrypts just about any DVD, whereas Shrink was having troubles with about 10% of the DVDs.
2. I can rip 10 DVDs to my hard-drive in about 3 hours (my burner is a 4x read, 2xburn piece of crap) whereas it can take almost that long to rip/shrink one 8gig DVD with Shrink. Then, I can put a blank in my drive, start Shrink on the Decrypted files and go to bed. When I wake up, I have a finished (shrunk & burned) DVD. Pop in another blank and let Shrink work on the next title. I don't know if I'm right, but I think it is quicker on large DVDs to do Decrypter for the rip with Shrink/Nero to burn (probably because my hard-drive/processer are faster than my lousy DVD drive).
3. It's free. It is always good to have at least one extra tool in the toolbox, because it will come in handy from time to time.
