Ok,
I am just wondering what some of you think, I have been trying out the clonedvd2 for the last few days - easy to use, not too bad, but i am used to utilizing SHRINK - which you all know is free. i am just trying to figure out is it really worth buying dvdclone2.
For a free program I think shrink does a heck of a job - and from what i can tell, it actually is more versatile than dvdclone2.
Also, to me, shrink seems to do a better job at being specific about the files you want to pick (example - 5.1, dolby DTS, etc). i was backing up a dvd that had directors comments and ended up getting the wrong audio - THATS not a big deal - I took the movie out, put it in my player to see which aduio was what so I would not make the same mistake - I needed it on the 5.1 channel - i couldnt tell WHICH one was it in Clonedvd2, but shrink's details prevented me from making another unwanted disk.
I am just wondering how some of you all feel about the two compared!?????? Would appreciate some feedback (being as though i have been using shrink waaaaay longer than conedvd2 - I just want to be sure i am being fair in my comparison process) - maybe there's something in clonedvd2 I havent tapped into yet.

The advantage of Shrink is that it rips on its own, however it is no longer updated so it now needs help from other programs in this dept. CloneDVD also rips but it won't do it on its own. CloneDVD however will let you split and maintain functional menus on both disks, something Shrink will not let you do. As far a reauthoring goes, Clone does a better job, and all you have to do is uncheck the audio you do not want DC's are always in the 2channel, so just uncheck it you do not need anyway unless it is your only option, such as old movies and they do not have DC's. Clone is updated, and Shrink no longer has support also it is slow compared to other programs. I rarely use Shrink anymore, for backups I now use Clone or DVDRB both give out excellent quality. And if I want to use a program that is Shrink like then I use Nero Recode it is the same progam, same developer, only faster.

i have the full Nero lic. but i don't use recode2 because it can't be intalled by itself, it comes with a buch of other programs i don't want to have in my PC. also shrink, even though it is slower than recode2, gives the same output quality. plus shrink is so simple. these are the reasons i still prefer shrink. when it comes to clone2, i just don't care for it, i have never use it.
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

elizerroj,
If you just want Recode 2 then only install that and nothing else is installed. You can get the newer version of Recode on Nero's site

HEY!!! I have Nero RE-CODE! (feeling excited) Are all of you saying Re-code is better than both Shrink and Clone? Maybe all i really need to do is learn how to use my Nero re-code ...
Hey Arniebear - you mentioned something about Clone letting you keep menus on BOTH disk in re-author - I TRIED to put two titles from a two-sided disk and I did not not see anywhere in Clone where I could 1) put them together to backup to only one disk 2) be able to keep the menu doing so ...
I DID see where I can keep a menu intact if I only want the movie off of one disk and no extras though.
And in Shrink, I am able to put the two titles together from the two-sided disk - but Shrink does not enable to keep any menus in re-authoring - at least not when I try.
please enlighten me ... I have been trying to put my Color purple movie on one disk w/ its menus so I dont have to keep getting up to turn the disk over for part 2.
if you know different, let me know

elizerroj,
Just go to the Nero site. Look for update and D/L that Module that you want. I think that module comes w/ NeroVision Express but I also think you can modify that by modifying the program in add/remove. I would not hurt to have them both on the computer as NeroVision Xpress cna make your home movies if you want it to. After d/l then you just enter in your serial number

Another difference between Shrink and CloneDVD is the CPU usage. Shrink will use 100% of the CPU, where Clone will not. Recode if done in low priority also does not use 100%. Here is a shot of Clone at the highest CPU usage for me.
