Hi there, would anyone be able to help me out with a problem I'm having with burning after using dvd shrink? It seems to burn one copy but if you try to do something straight after it comes up with the following message. I've looked at the other messages posted on the site and followed advice given to others, but still having no luck. Would really appreciate some help, thanks Sam

Hi Kubus,
I am no expert on Nero burn logs, but i will give yours a go. If i miss something, someone else will probably pop in with the answers.
Here we go:
Quote: Nero API version: 6.0.0.0
Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
You can update to 6.6.0.16 unless you want to try Nero7 which i am holding off on, but your version of Nero is behind.
Your firmware is up to date.
Your DMA's are on.
You were only trying to burn at 2x so you are not burning too fast.
Quote: Physical memory : 511MB (523760kB)
Free physical memory: 117MB (119864kB)
Memory in use : 77 %
Try freeing up some memory by killing off programs you don't need.
Quote: Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
it doesn't like your media. Try using Verbs or Taiyo Yudens.
Quote: 16:19:13 #24 CDR -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 335
Power calibration error
yet another indication the media is a problem. You can id your media by using a free program available here at AD under the software tab. DVD Identifier will tell you who made those DVD-R. I can't seem to find the media id in the log file. Upgrade Nero, free up some memory, and use good media. See if any of that helps.

Also here is what Nero says on power calibration errors:
Quote: I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?
Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.
Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.
If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.
Please try the following solutions:
Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service
I would try changing media first as your firmware is up to date, and media is the cheapest thing to change.

As suggested earlier, free up some system memory. All of those icons next to your clock, right click on them and left click "Exit" before you burn. (You can go here to learn how to keep the programs from starting up every time you reboot that way you will have enough memory all the time. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56373
As suggested previously, I think if you change brand of blank media. Your error will go away. Is it some cheap stuff your trying to burn to? I highly suggest in getting some Taiyo Yuden brand media or Verbatim DataLife Plus brand media.
(Just FYI: Your burner only supports -R media. It won't work with +R media.)

Perhaps a mod can edit or delete the reply above. I tried to use the "Report Offensive Post" link, but it took me to the main forum page.

@ little155 - Basically you need to take the "check mark" out of the box on anything you do not need. You want to keep your Anti-Virus software, stuff like that. The less stuff running in the background, the better and faster other programs will run like Nero when burning.

Hi Maxburn / Temj
Updated Nero as you advised but now I get the following message when using DVD Shrink.
Failed to read file "E:\"
Copy protection error - the read failed because the sector is encrypted.
Is this the same fault or something completey diffrent? Is there are easier way to do this than I'm doing it already or am I just crap at this!?
Thanks for the help guys

1) Uncheck "Enable burning with Nero" in DVD Shrink "Edit >> Preferences >> File I/O" menu.
2) Use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD first (as described here), and then use DVD Shrink "Open files", selecting the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" one.
3) Use a region-free software like AnyDVD , DVD43,...
4) Update your drive firmware (at your own risks) to make it region-free.
5) Start playing the original DVD with your software player.
Pause it.
Start the DVD Shrink process.
Stop and close your software player.
6) Use DVD Shrink ver 3.0b5.
