I apologize if this is in the wrong section

I am looking at purchasing a new laptop and have been contemplating a Dual Layer burner.

My questions are the following:

Can I set DVD shrink from 4.7 size to 8.5 size?

Has anyone used dual layer burners and software?? Any successes/failures?

No dual layer discs are recordable on one side only, you do not turn them over at all. Regarding labeling it is not advised to apply sticky labels on DVDs. Printable DL discs are available but they are expensive. Do yourself a favour and put a dual layer burner in your new laptop you won't regret it.
You changed questions just as I was answering your first two.

frammit..sorry about that...I was misinformed originally about Dual layer and instead of looking like an idiot I changed the post not realizing anyone was in the midst of an answer.

So how do you keep your DVD's labelled? Just a plain sharpie? I have been using "sticky labels" for a while and noticed maybe 1 out of every 10 won't work after I put a lable on them....

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Hi littlegun no problem. Yes I'm afraid you have to use a Sharpie to mark regular finish blank DVDs. Thats what I and many other ADers use. Most times I use my Epson R300 printer and inkjet printable DVDs, that does an excellent job of labelling. D/L inkjet printables are available but are quite expensive and limited to just a few blank media manufacturers at this time. I know only to well about your problem with sticky labels, I had 20 or so of my owm with paper labels from when I first started burning as a hobby. Same results as you played OK for about an hour then freezing and pixelating. As a matter of fact I have scratched around and removed the label and goo, put the same disc back in the same player and Presto plays perfect, so paper labels definately have some adverse effect on playback. I have found that it is a lot easier to copy the same DVD using DVDdecypter than to try and remove the sticky labels.
I did have a good Thanksgiving thankyou a little while ago, I live in Canada, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving too.
