Okay, just wanted to get some other people's preferences. I've personally always used DVD Shrink and had great success and results. I tried out CloneDVD last night because I wanted to see about maintaining menus and extras. I think the compression for Mr. & Mrs. Smith was about 59% which seemed quite high. I was not impressed with the results. Movie turned out pretty bad. I ended up redoing with DVD Shrink with a compression more around 95% which turned out great.
Has anyone had better success with ClonDVD? I'm wondering where the ideal compression level limit is for that program, because I'd rather not waste a bunch of disks trying to learn if its even worth it. Surely there are times when a disk can be backed up preserving menus and extras on a DVDR without losing so much quality. I've tried the DVDRebuilder & CCE method and I'm not interested in waiting that long.
I use CloneDVD as a last resort. I like Shrink a lot better. At least in Shrink, you can choose how much compression you want for certain features on the DVD. You don't have that option with CloneDVD. CloneDVD automatically adjusts the compression settings for everything. I don't like that. A lot of times, the backup copy comes out looking terrible, IMO. AnyDVD and DVD Shrink is what I use the most to backup movies.
My staple is the "Big Three" - AnyDVD, DVDShrink, and DVDdecrypter.
I do use CloneDVD occassionally if I am feeling lazy, but my burns with it are just a good. I don't use it more because I am a hands on type of guy and like the control I get with shrink and decrypter.

There is quite a bit of difference in compression between these two backups you are comparing apples and oranges here with compression at 59% on one and 95% on the other. Just do movie only on both and then compare you will see they are the same, unless you are using quality enhancements in Shrink, but there will still be little difference.

DVDRB and CCE cannot be beat for high compression if you want the quality then be patient otherwise you will have to use Shrink and try using AEC on Smooth or Max Smooth for those high compression backups and it will still take Shrink an hour or more, might as well go with DVD RB which encodes the movie and not transcodes as Shrink, Recode and Clone does, there is a difference in the backup.

I have used Clone for many movie backups and find it to be reliable and the quality is good, but not for movies with 40% compression.
