Okay,
My uncle gets buys DVDs every month and he's been trying to copy dvd's so he doesn't have to worry about the originals getting scratched up. But the movie Madagascar comes up w/ a "CRC Error" about 30% of the way through.......I've already looked through the forums and I know, there are a bunch of solutions to this; but people say you have to run one program w/ another in the background--I don't really understand, do you just open up AnyDVD and leave it there, or do you still create an image in AnyDVD AND DvD Shrink AT the SAME TIME; working them both to the same output folder?? Also, if anybody has a really easy way to fix this problem; please tell me ASAP. Also, make it easy as possible to explain because I'm very new to ripping. I have these programs: the AnyDVD trial (18 days left), DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, DVDFab Decrypter. If there's any other programs I need, give me a link or some kinda info on where to get it.
P.S. Please be in good detail for (once again,) I'm not what you'd call a pro @ this stuff yet, I'm just trying to help out my uncle. Thank you for your help. Thank you After Dawn!

You don't really need to run anything in the background. First use either AnyDVD or DVDFab, that will save the DVD in your HD. Then use Shrink to compress it to fit onto a DVD5, then burn w/ w/e you got.

CRC means the disc is dirty or scratched up, there is a real good CRC thread here, just search CRC via search bar at top of screen and go to the thread w/ the most hits, it's like 200 or something, any ?s you got should be answered within first few post.

You can also use the guides that are provided at this forum and there are some excellent guides available at bbmayo's website link located in my signature block. Follow step by step and you will be on the way to burning excellent backups.

Cheers.

Do a search here, and type in "Madagascar." It is the first DVD to feature Macrovision's latest form of copy protection -- Ripguard.

There are dozens of threads which offer many solutions. One thread alone has 170 + replies, and more solutions than you can keep track of.

In almost all cases, a CRC error ("cyclic redundancy check") means a dirty disc or a damaged disc. However, it can also mean (occasionally) that it is a disc with one of the new forms of copy protection which involve structure protection. These are Sony ARccOS, and also (now) the newer Macrovision Ripguard. In the case you are discussing, the "Madagascar" disc has Macrovision RipGuard, which means your CRC error is probably just occurring because of that protection.

Try one of the other alternate methods of ripping this disc that will work with that form of copy protection.

Search.

Ever wonder which new film will cause the shift in attention? I thought the same thing with the Bewitched movie, now it Madagascar, which one is the next problem child? I wonder!

Problem is is that the new folks are in such a panic to get one copied they all want the shortcut. Human nature. Give em about a week at this forum and they will be up to speed.

Once a person has the correct tools and learns the correct process to use them, the questions dissappear and the answers are forthcoming from them as well. It doesn't take them long.

Madagascar - noooo not again :)

i recently did Madagascar effortlessly with DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.0 (free) then Shrunk with DVD Shrink as normal. what i did do was use my dvd-rom/cd-write combo drive (like io do for most of my ripping); didn't try to rip it on any of my dvd burners as i'd done the movie already but it's always nice to have a couple of optical drives..as if a movie won't play ball on one drive you always have a choice of drives to use..

9mmruger1 you are correct, BUT if everyone had CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD when they first started out backing up dvds the post count in here would be cut in half instanly , although theres lots of software that will do the hard to backup movies CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD is the easiest way to get the job done

I agree, they are worth their cost for the ease of backups. Folks however are often looking for free, so we gotta do what we gotta do.

I enjoy helping those that I can, and appreciate what I have learned from folks like you. I learn more every time that I visit this forum and hope that it never goes away.

Cheers friend - Happy holidays and Merry Christmas.
