Do you have AnyDVD or DVD43 running in the background? You could also try ripping with DVDFab decrypter which has encryption breaking software built in. Rip with than and then try shrink.
I have not done it yet. Others have.

Use Dvd Fab Decrypter, then VOB_Blanker, then DVD Shrink. I had my trial version of Any Dvd running so I would have to say that should be on too. I wish I could get my money back for the movie. The Brothers Grimm is too dark and tedious for my taste.

I just used DVD Fab Decrypter and DVD Shrink. It worked great. You don't need AnyDVD.

Just this evening I had no problem Shrinking with AnyDVD running in the background. I did have a problem when I tried to burn (with DVDDecrypter). I solved that problem by re-Shrinking the image file down to less than 4300 Mb. Evidently, when I tried to burn on my Ridata 4x +R media I was burning too close to the edge of the disk using the "automatic" shrink image file size. Just my 2 cents worth...

When I tried to use Shrink, it stopped at 37%, and that was it.
So I tried CloneDVD, with AnyDVD running, and it worked great!

I am also having problems with DVD Shrink. I get an "Invalid data in file VTS_01_1.VOB" when I try to read the files after it's been ripped with DVD Decrypter. The rip was fine and I can view the movie on the computer, but I can't shrink it to fit to a 4.7GB disc. I've tried with and without AnyDVD and DVD43 running in the background. I also cannot shrink directly from the disc. It goes for about 2 minutes and pops up a CRC error message. Any suggestions?
I know some of you said that CloneDVD works, but I don't find it as flexible as DVD Shrink in allowing you to select specifically what audio streams you want and custom shrink, unless I'm mistaken about CloneDVD. I am interested in how some of you are able to use DVD Shrink to shrink it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The current versions of AnyDVD, DVD43, DVDFab should handle this without issues. Possible you have a bad press.

I tried burning this DVD with DVDShrink 3 times. Each time it would fail with an out of memory error. I have a Pentium 4 3.67GHz processor with 2 GB of memory and 120 GB disk array. So memory and disk space shouldn't be an issue. AnyDVD appears to read the disk ok. The problem is DVDShrink. I ended up copying the flick successfully with DVD2One v1.52

**NOTE: this is for those that have tried AnyDVD, DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD43 or other methods, and it has failed only.
Here's the method I used and it works 100%, yes... you hear me, a full disc GUARANTEE to work. If you do as follow, then you DON'T/WON'T even see that "annoying FBI Warning" as well, I blank that sh!t out too.
I ripped it with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F successfully. Then use VobBlanker to "blank" out PGC #2 from VTS_01_*.VOB and PGC #1 --> #5 of VTS_02_*.VOB, then PROCESS went smoothly. Encoded with Nero Recode 2, and burned with Nero Burning Rom easily.
For those that can not backup "The Brothers Grimm". I don't know, but I'm guessing there's some sort of bad sectors or encrypted protection (something very similar to Macrovision's RipGuard).
**Tools need: DVD Decrypter, VobBlanker and DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 (your choice of preference). Here's what you need to do:
** get free VobBlanker here http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2010_exe.zip
**NOTE: before ripping the movie with DVD Decrypter, go to your C: drive or Hard drive, make a folder name NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM and make a sub-folder name VIDEO_TS inside "NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM", then Exit out.
1) rip the movie with DVD Decrypter via MODE, File F into your hard drive. Once it's completed, exit out.
2) open up VobBlanker: (A) set your "input = source" this is your files that was ripped by DVD Decrypter earlier. (B) set your "output = destination"<-- browse to your hard drive and look for NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM, VIDEO_TS, click Open/OK
3) (A) click on VTS_01_*.VOB, now "BLANK" out PGC #2 on the bottom window. (B) click on VTS_02_*.VOB, now "BLANK" out PGC #1, PGC #2, PGC #3, PGC #4 and PGC #5. (C) Once these are marked BLANK, click "PROCESS". That's it.... now sit tight and wait for VobBlanker to process and filter out all those junks until it's completed. VobBlanker should take somewhere like 10 - 15 minutes only.
4) open up DVD Shrink, click Open Files, browse to your newly created folder NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM, VIDEO_TS and perform your usual steps of shrinking. That's it.... easy as sippin' on some Hennessey.
Good luck... happy burning!! Teach and learn.

This could be why so many people are having a hard time ripping The Brothers Grimm. It seems that Miramax is starting to put the Macrovision RipGuard protection on all of it's new releases. Dimension is a subsidiary of Miramax and so far, both Sin City Recut and The Brothers Grimm have the Macrovision RipGuard protection on them.
By the way, I just backed up The Brothers Grimm (main movie only) using AnyDVD and DVD Shrink.

Thanks all. I tried with Vobblanker and it finally worked! I am now able to shrink it with DVD Shrink. What a pain. Any idea why DVD Shrink couldn't read the files even after DVD Decrypter decrypted it? I thought that would have taken care of things. I never had problems before when DVD Decrypter ripped movies that it had to insert dummy sectors into.
Alkohol - how do you know what cells or chains to blank out for certain things you don't want? There's no description to tell you that.

Total Newbie here.
What's wrong with my VobBlanker?? I've followed all the necessary steps to Blank out various Vob's from alkohol's step by step post. When processing Vts. 01 it keeps coming up with the error "VobBlanker MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close". It happens around; Title VOB Writing, VTS 01: Keeping Cell Vid/Cid.
Really fustrating, especially after I've read all the success posts using this method. I'm not doing anything different from those posts!!!
I'm using VobBlanker v.2.0.1.0
Never had a single problem ripping it to my HD.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

finally able to copy the brothers grimm and the great raid! i used the latest version of dvdfab decrypter to decrypt it, then processed it through vob_blanker, then shrunk it with DVD Shrink. that was the only method that i found to work after many unsuccessful attempts. hope that this works for everyone else.

@madjonfin
The method I provided works 100% for any dvd movies that has RipGuard protection. However, to "BLANK" out which "VTS.XX.*.VOB" and "PGCs" may be varied (or to be determined) with different dvds, but that shouldn't be hard. PgcEdit usually tells you which VTS that carried the bad sectors (bad protected sectors or junks) when you ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter via MODE, File F or DVDFAB Decrypter.
Back to your errors now, did you ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter using MODE, File F into your hard drive? Or did you ripped the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter? Do you have any other cracking engine ie DVD43, AnyDVD, DVD Region+CSS Free running in the "background" while you're using VobBlanker? You need to "turn off" or "disable" DVD43, AnyDVD or any cracking engines running in the background when using VobBlanker, or else they will conflicts with VobBlanker when processing.
You said; "When processing Vts. 01 it keeps coming up with the error "VobBlanker MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close."
I say; "you don't just PROCESS or BLANK VTS.01.*VOB only. You need to: (A) click on VTS_01_*.VOB, now "BLANK" out PGC #2 on the bottom window. VobBlanker should take somewhere like 10 - 15 minutes only."
Again, just re-read my mini guide, follow them closely and I GUARANTEE 100% that you'll be able to have a successfully working "full disc" in due time. If you do it right to as what I've provided, then you'll be happy that VobBlanker took care of that annoying "FBI Warning", yes.... I blank that sh!t out too.
**NOTE: the method I used works, I've already tested and watched my backup and it plays flawlessly on 2 of my standalone dvd players.
Good luck... and happy burning!!!!
