OK, I know that there's a lot of guides/methods are posted here on "how to rebuild a DVD9 PS2 games" into DVD5 already. However, seems like some newbies are having troubles regardless of how great those guides are. Here is an "easy/simple" guide, especially for those clueless newbies with Swap Magic.

In this guide, I will use 50CENT BULLETPROOF, since it's 5.95GB and many newbies (Swap Magic users) are having troubles rebuilding or backing up the game and or any games that's over 4.7GB. With that being said, we can't just have DVD Decrypter or Nero to rip and burn onto a single layer 4.7GB. Apparently, in order for you to have a successful backup and play, you'll need to rebuild the game so your Swap Magic Disc can boot it up properly. This is a working method, I've tried and tested the backups and it works!

NOTE: some PS2 games will need to have a special "RipKit/Tool", in order to successfully rebuild and backup. To name a few like GT4, GOW (US) and XENOSAGA Episode 1 (US). These games are totally different and needs it's own "ripkit" to process in order to backup and have a success burned. Additionally, keep in mind that not every rebuild games will GUARANTEE to work 100%, a few will freeze/hang up, black screen, some you'll need to rebuild a few times or burn to different high quality media a few times, etc.

TOOLS NEEDED FOR THIS GUIDE or FUTURE

APACHE 3 http://rapidshare.com/files/11762385/Apache3.exe.html
APACHE 2 http://rapidshare.com/files/11763085/Apache_2.exe.html
Gnie's IML2ISO v4 http://rapidshare.com/files/11762641/gdvd4-iml2iso.exe.html
Gnie's ExPERT http://rapidshare.com/files/11762717/ExPERT_v1.03.rar.html
CD DVD GEN 1.5 http://rapidshare.com/files/11762892/cddvd_gen_15.rar.html
DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 http://rapidshare.com/files/11763360/Set....5.4.0.exe.html
ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/
ISO Buster (Free version) http://www.isobuster.com/

I highly recommend whoever don't have them yet, grab it before it's gone because it won't be there long.

NOTE: In this guide, I will only use ISO Buster Pro 1.8, CDVD GEN 1.5, Gnie's IML2ISO and Nero Express (Nero 7) to burn. Burning is a choice/preference of yours, so use which ever programs you're more experienced to burn. Of course, I do nearly 50% and 50% on both DVD Decrypter and Nero for the burning process.

Since nearly everyone knows how to rip the game via DVD Decrypter using MODE, ISO, READ R into the hard drive and MODE, ISO, WRITE to burn, so I'll just briefly write for that process for now.

**STEP 1**

- rip the game with DVD Decrypter via MODE, ISO, READ R to your hard drive.

**STEP 2**

- Extract the ISO or files with ISO Buster Pro 1.8 -- now Open up ISO Buster Pro 1.8

Now make a Folder in your hard drive called ISO BUSTER EXTRACT or something that you'll remember.

Once ISO Buster is completed, don't close it... leave it open, but just minimize down on your taskbar only because you'll need that for reference to get going with CD/DVD GEN 1.5.

**STEP 3**

Now open up CD/DVD GEN 1.5

Now bring back up ISO Buster Pro 1.8 again, so you can reference the files in order.

at DISC NAME: put SLUS 21315 (with no period). NOTE: sometimes it will be SLES XXXXX. at PRODUCER NAME: always put PLAYSTATION, at VOLUME: put 50CENT or name of the game, at PUBLISHER: put your name or anything, at LICENSE NAME: America (or wherever the disc/or you're from, so if you're from Europe, put Europe, if you're from Japan, put Japan).

Now go into your hard drive and create a Folder name IML, then EXIT out.

**STEP 4**

Now open up Gnie's IML2ISO

**STEP 5**

Burning the ISO Image, now you can Open up DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn or Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom and burn your newly rebuild game. For this guide, I'm using Nero Express to burn. Why? Because I like the fact that Nero can/will "automatically" set the "Booktype" into DVD-ROM whenever I used a DVD+R media. However, the choice is yours.... I've done both DVD Decrypter and Nero equally, but lately I just don't like to go inside the settings via DVD Decrypter and set the "booktype" prior to the burning process that's all.

I preferred any DVD+R from Taiyo Yuden, Hitachi Maxell (Made In Japan by Hitachi Corp.) and Verbatim "advanced azo" or "datalife plus" and have them "Booktyping" into DVD-ROM. With booktyping them into DVD-ROM format, you're FREE OF WORRIES... that's right, you hear me, any PS2 consoles will play any DVD-ROM format flawlessly.

That's it...... now you can pop up a Hennessey or Tequila and play all night long.

NOTE: If you have the following set to "Automatic", then whenever you use Nero Express (for PS2 games or dvd movies), Nero Burning Rom (for dvd movies) Nero Recode 2 & Nero Vision (for dvd movies) to burn, all your backups will automatically set the ?BookType? to DVD-ROM if you?re using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL media. That is... if your dvd burner is capable of booktyping.

How to set the "Booktype" or "Bitsetting" using Nero Burning Rom by Alkohol

NOTE: this is just the settings only, it will work even if you burn your PS2 games with Nero Express, it will automatically "Booktype" your DVD+R into DVD-ROM when you're burning with Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom.[/b]

01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up
03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
04) click on ?Options," then on "Booktype Settings," set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every time when you burn using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disc, Nero will ?automatically? change the Booktype into a DVD-ROM format.

Good luck, have fun burning -- Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Updated: here is a good link to keep in mind about burning too fast versus burning at 4X. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/265933

**NOTE: make sure your dvd burner?s firmware is up-to-date with the most current firmware available. Firmware plays a very important role in query to dvd burning -- it helps to increase the burning performances, media compatibility and it will be able to handle the latest manufacture?s media codes in prior to the burning process. So your burner can write to the media properly, instead of getting ?KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR?, ?INVALID_DISC? or getting ?coasters?, etc. Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php to check on your burner?s firmware if there is any current available, or if you?re not sure that your burner?s firmware is the latest, download it to run and updates the firmware if necessary.

Additionally, number one rule of thumb is to always use ?high quality? media like genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim ?Advanced Azo? or ?DataLifePlus? and Maxell (Made In Japan by Hitachi Corp.), these are my 3 top choices of high quality media. I?ve used them over hundreds and hundreds (thousand) mainly for all of my dvd burning projects and I?ve never encountered any issues whatsoever. In addition, keep in mind to slow your burning speed at 4X only (this is one of the best and safest speeds for dvd burning so far). On the other hand, if you?re fully content that your burner is capable of handling 8X without any failures at all and both you and your burner have the courage to go beyond 4X, then you may try at 8X if you feel the need to. However, I would not recommend going any further than 8X regardless of how super power your dvd burner is made of, the chances are if you?re burning at 12X or 16X, you?re more than likely going to end up with a ?coaster? or it may be a successfully burned now, but down the road, it may trigger some playback issues such as skipping or freezing.

In contrast, the choice is yours, we?re all entitled to our own preferences and judgment, but keep in mind that ?quality last, not quantity and speeds.?

@paddymail

LOL. Yeah, I know "not all" Swap Magic users are newbies. Infact, most Swap Magic users are pretty knowledge, in my opinion because us/we get to mess around/trying to rebuild the games. Hehehe, sad but true.

Anyways, I did not say "all Swap Magic users."

I said; "In this guide, I will use 50CENT BULLETPROOF, since it's 5.95GB and "many newbies" (Swap Magic users) are having troubles rebuilding or backing up the game and or any games that's over 4.7GB."

Notice I said; "many newbies Swap Magic users" only. Hehe... cheers now.

Happy burning and Merry Christmas!!!

Nice Walkthrough!

I am slightly offended by the swap magic uses = noobs.

But then again, its how i read it!

There is an easier way to play DVD9 games on PS2, get a HDD for it!
I paid £45 for a 200GB Maxtor hdd, and i just transfer all my games over to that using WinHIIP :D Simpler.

But very easy walkthrough!

Merry Christmas everyone!

3.2Ghz P4 775, ATi X700 Pro 256mb, 1GB DDR2,Asrock 775Twins-HDTV S/L, Maxtor 10 160GB SATA, NEC 4571 DVD±RW DL/RAM, Pioneer 110 DL/RAM, Hiper Type R 480W.

@3dluis

Yes, that's my backup of GT4 (fully rebuilt on Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R Inkjet Printable disc), which I made it a while back (somewhere in June 2005). My Epson R300 is the man for the printing job on any of my YUDEN or MAXELL printable backups.

Since you've got some Inkjet/Hub printable media already, you'll need one of the famous R series from Epson ie R200, R300, R320, etc. They all comes with direct CD/DVD printing support, by meaning it has a CD/DVD software and a CD/DVD Tray that will prints directly to your backup once you load it (your backup in Tray) inside the printer.

Yeah, good luck, and Merry Christmas to all!!

Yes, that's another great video guide and much credits goes to whoever made the guide. However, that's the long way (dont' get me wrong now, I used to rebuild and sometimes does exactly like that, but honestly, I think that way takes longer that's all). Mad props to whoever made the video guide.

@killa85rz

According to my understanding and knowledge, if you have one of those great modchip (modified or chip on your console), then you won't need to rebuild the game regardless if it's a DVD9 (over 4.7GB - 9GB). All you need to do is backup the game (original one) using a high quality DVD+R DL media (Verbatim is top notch) and play it.

*NOTE: some modchip console may need the "Sonix Toxic Patch" for DL backups to work properly.

Merry Christmas to all and happy burning!!!!

My bad that was directed @killa85rz, not bootme. If your modchip supports DVD-9 games, then your burn it to a Dual Layer disc with DVD Decrypter, just like you were burning a single layer or DVD-5 game. Use high quality media like Verbatim DVD+R DL disc as Alkohol suggested. I burned GT4 to a DL Verbatim DVD+R and it plays perfectly. I got three Verbatim DL DVD+R discs at Wal-Mart (of all places) for $12. It was marked as $20, I think the lady just rang it up wrong. They had Memorex DL discs on sale, but no need to address that, I'm sure we all know to avoid CMC Mag media at this point.

77. Q. I have a modchip that supports DVD-9 games like the Matrix Infinity or DMS 4, how do I burn my dual layer discs?
A. You most definitely don't want to waste money on DL disc's, they're just too expensive for us po folks. You burn dual layer DVD-R's the same as single layer DVD-R's. Use DVD Decrypter. Burn at 4x on a DL 8x DVD-R. Use quality DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, TDK, Maxell, Sony, or Phillips. Avoid Memorex, Imation, Staples, or generic brand X.
