when windows detects my phone i go to install the phone through the hardware wizard and select the p2k driver folder and get it to say motorola usb modem and i click next and it gives me a screen asking what ports i want to install it on and i can not get any further than that... if this was found somewhere or fixed easily i will apologize now for my ignorance

When MobilePhoneTools properly detects the phone, "reception bars", "battery level", "e-mail icon", etc. appear in the display.
What concerns me is the "Internet icon" (Earth globe) that appears toward the top left. MPT's Internet Setup is set to LAN and my PC's on RoadRunner. Is it just saying it detects the RR connection?
If internet data is only transferred via the cable modem and not wirelessly through the Motorola phone, I will not incur any charges, right?
Obviously dialing up a GPRS connection will cause stuff to be tacked onto my bill, but besides that, is there anything else I can unknowingly do, that will effect my billing?
I have absolutely no need to use my phone for the internet, so if there are still risk, is there a way to just disable that whole part of the software?

Firstly understand that I am a biggole noob at this. With that in mind-
when you get to that point, isn't there an option to scan the COM ports? or add a new device, or something like that? What makes you say you can't you get any further than that? Does your computer crash? There should always be options, IIRC.
Be persistent, it'll pay off, trust me.

sorry i wasnt clear... there is no option to scan or add a new device...there is a box where there should be some ports i can select but there are none there and my only option is back

Allrighty then, I got nothin. What I can tell you is that in addition to the PKman I downloaded, I got the 1.16 MPT and installed it, then downloaded the 2.16 MPT and ran that, then had to download the 2.23 MPT and run _that_ before the auto-update feature would work. Now the version is 3.20. I don't know whether the 3.1x MPT is compatable with the V220 or not.
You DID unzip the PKman stuff, right? This is the blind leading the blind sometimes..... :)

The internet icon is there so that you can access the net through the phone, or letting you know that the service is available. it does Not mean that you are connected to the net, just that you can.
When you connect to the net through the phone it will be just like a Dial-up session back in the old days, except that your phone will be the "modem". it will ask you to confirm the connection when you do it, and will probably require a little setup to work.
Just because your connected to phone, and on the internet does not mean that you are connected to the net through the phone.
Understand?

gonna be uploading a bunch of moto stuff, ringtones/wallpapers/screensavers/apps/games/utilities incl the PhoneTools Suite v3 etc, tonight to my webserver for y'all to leech from.
I got the v220 working quickly on my XP SP2, however the phones sim card doesnt support GPRS since its an older one, but thats neither here nor there lol.
installed 'USB Driver' rebooted, connected phone, pointed it to the extracted location of the p2k driver, installed that successfully, then i installed the PhoneTools software , ignoring the 2 registry errors that appear, and then viola, phone was auto-detected and i was synchronising, sms'ing, calling from my pc through the phone hehe .

So MPT doesn't automatically make a GPRS connection "out of the box". It requires a little setup & confirmation, phew, ok.
All this mobile phone to PC interfacing is new to me, but now I can be a little less apprehensive while using it, thanks rabbit44.

* Quick tip to try for anyone stuck in "Initializing..." or getting a "Process Failed":
Turn the phone off and then back on. (Many don't realize the process not responding can be either on the PC or on the phone, don't always blame the bigger machine, lol)

What USB modem. extract the p2k driver ( thats for the modem use of your mobile via gprs ) then install the USB Driver, reboot, then connect your phone and turn it on. Now it should prompt you to install drivers, so point it to the p2k directory. After all of this is completed, install the MPT software, and it should work, it works fine for my v220 anyway. It may also be due to an incompatible cable, mine was from a digital camera

When I ran device detection it displays the following:
* Modem identification
* Opening Motorola USB Modem #4
* Modem properties
->ATZ
~ Comm Error
* Closing Motorola USB Modem #4
Can someone help me get this back on the right track. I?m using V220 and Windows 98 SE. All i?m getting is Initializing. Has anyone figured out how to get it working from Initializing? Please help. I see a lot of people having the same ?Initializing? problem and not many responses to it. I have a sufficient USB cable and I?ve got v.3.11 MPT.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Thanks

Ok Fellas,
I have tried all the downloads and I have Mobile Phone Tools working but I need java unlocked. I downloaded SmartMoto but when I go to use it, my phone goes from com 3 to not present and when I close the program and unplug then replug the phone it comes back as com 3, but mobile phone tools works perfect. I also tried p2kman and it does the same thing. also when i try to use the phone as a modem it starts dialing then doesn't connect

Hello Everybody, I've been trying to download this thing for a week, and now that i finally did, and worked, i'd like to help ya'll.
I have a Motorola V220, and here are the steps i took to make this thing work.
1. Went to this page http://coma.fsb.hr/motorola/files/
and downloaded the Mobile Phone Tools 1.23c. Its a zip file
2. Went to http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php and downloaded the P2k and the USB driver's.
3. Went to this page http://coma.fsb.hr/motorola/files/ here you just have to click on the file that says: mobilePhoneTools_2.16_US - update.exe and download it, this is the upgrade for the MPT 1.23c
4. You Install first the MPT 1.23c version, and after that you click on the 2.16 version, and it will upgrade itself.
To configure my phone i used the motorola v600 option, since v220 does not appear here, but it works perfectly.
I Hope this works for everybody, since it was really hard for me to get all those stuff together. Good Luck everybody.
