DVD backup made with DVD Shrink not viewable

I am a simple computer user without any computer science background.

A few weeks ago I made a backup copy of a movie with DVD Shrink which is perfectly playable and viewable on my PC (where I made the backup) and on our TV from a stand alone DVD player (beginner's luck?). I just made a plain backup without changing any of the default features of the backup software.

When I make backups now in the same way (at least I believe so) the backups are perfectly playable on our TV (lucky for the kids) but they are no longer playable from my PC. The PC doesn't even see the DVD in drive anymore: the DVD player software (Dell Media Experience) says there is a DVD with unknown format in the DVD drive, and windows explorer shows the DVD drive as empty.

What could be the problem?

For your information my Dell PC has two DVD drives: one read only, and one read-write one.

In drop down menus where drives can be chosen
?the read-only one shows up as: [1:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR 8163 B
?the read-write one shows up as:[1:1:0] _NEC DVD+-RW ND-3450 A

Will the pc read the backup copy from either of the drives?

Your drives may need to have a firmware update which will allow the drive to see the media type. You can check here for the latest firmware version: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
