When I go to open my movie files from the hard drive in DVD Shrink, it is not recognizing the file(there is no title 1 or 2--it is blank). I've tried with 2 discs now and had the same problem. No problems backing up in the past until now. I'm using DVD Decrypter to read the DVD to the hard drive with DVD43 running in the background. Did I accidentally change a setting in Decrypter or Shrink? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks!

I tried to remove and re-install Shrink, but still get the same problem--Shrink does not open the title file. The properties on my file is read only, I don't remember if that was the case before this problem popped up....anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

@jimmy20
Use the guide in my signature for the settings and process you need to use for DVDDEcrypter and DVDShrink.

thanks for the reply.....i tried it with a 3rd movie and it worked. the 2 i tried to backup were Dark Water and Madagascar(just happened to be to hard burns, i guess). Shrink did not recognize the file after Decrypter downloaded it to my hard drive. Any ideas on software that would work on DW or Madagascar? I tried CloneDVD2, but it did not work. thanks again....

You should use VOBblanker! Just put vobblanker in the search engine and there should be some instructions somewhere on how to use that software! I had trouble with walt disney movie like madagascar, valiant, and other movies like that. but when i use vobblanker correctly they worked perfectly!

vobblanker works good for postprocessing... but that's not neccessary if you use dvdfab decrypter. Its better than than DVD Decrypter because its tackled alot of the new encryption that locks up DVD Shrink. It will work with dark water and madagascar.

I'm a newbie here. I use DVD decrypt, shrink, and fabdvd. They work perfectly. Fabdvd is great! I use to use just dvddecrypt and shrink and that worked great. Every once in a while a would pick up a bug or something, so I would delete both programs and reinstall. That would solve my problems. Then the new protection came out on many of the newer movies, Bewitched, Mr & Mrs. Smith etc. That's when I got fabdvd. No more problems, I decrypt with fabdvd I shrink with shrink and I use dvddecrypt to burn. The flow is excellant and so easy. I can burn DVD-R or DVD+R with my benq so I'm thrilled. But I know down the line new protection will come up. Watch out for the stuff you can pick up that may interfere with your movie copying programs. I think that may be your problem. Once you get a bug you've got to delete every segment of your copying and reinstall. That's why I always have back up disc of my programs. Just incase something happens so we can't download anymore free stuff.

I have had the same problem a few times, dvd decypter does it's job, but nothing shows up when you re-author with Shrink. The files are there, and can even be played back on the computer. I brought the files into Nero to burn instead of shrink, but weirdly enough, one VOB burned with french language. Just one. Couldn't uncheck French in shrink, so beats me how to fix that one. If I play the VOB file on the computer, my software plays it as english. Wonder what's missing that DVD Shrink won't recognize the ripped files?

I'm just a newbie but I don't use VOB (what ever that is) I use ISO files.
First I use fabdecrypt and decrypt the movie. Then exit out of everything.
Then I open shrink, I don't re-author anything, I make sure it is on full disc.
go straight to backup if the movie shows it will fit on your DVD if not
then I click on the menus extras etc. and remove sound on everything except the movie and customize the size to zero on the lever bar.
when I do the movie I remove everything except english 5.1. if the movie still doesn't fit I click on the customize bar and barely move it until I know it will fit. This really doesn't affect the quality of the movie. (at least no one can tell with my customizing)
after it is all that is done. I exit.
Go into DVDdecrypt and burn it. Done
Then entire process takes about 35/45 minutes. ISO files are the only way I know how to do this. I wish I knew how to edit the video as well as I do the audio. I would like to remove all the advertisements completely.
the only thing wrong with mine is that there is no sound for the extras advertisements etc. The sound resumes for the movie and athe movie quality is great.
Hope that helps.

msnevbill.... you dont need to get that involved. most discs will compress to a great level by just removing foreign audio tracks. If you do want to remove the previews without a full reauthor then cut the audio like you do and replace the video with a still pic. Shrink will reauthor the vobs to compensate. Just expand the disc hierarchy to show the title you want and take the drop down compression on the right to your choice. Just an idea.

1. I just used only DVD43 before inserting disk, and then opened up DVDShrink. The tab
selection was on main movie and you should see main movie folder highlighted at
this point, now just select preferred audio/sub picture language (I used English only).
2. Now select tab at top re-author...should now see the following selections: menu, main
movie & extras...just double click Title 1 in main.
3. Select tab Backup at top and a popup screen comes up to select a target folder on HD
to copy too. That?s it!!!
4. I selected CloneDVD2 to burn the selected folder in step 3.

msnevbill had the solution, it seems. DVD Decrypter has an iso mode, and that did the trick. I like the file mode, 'cause it allows me to select only the main movie files, but DVD Shrink can remove all the extras as well, when ISO mode rips the entire dvd. AnyDVD in the background did nothing, and I'm uninstalling it with 20 days left in the trial period. Antivirus program? Not sure what that would have to do with it, thanks everyone.

I am really happy that I could be of help. I too wasn't happy with AnyDVD. It took me two tries at it then out it went. I thought it was operator error (me) Everyone else seemed to give it such great reviews. But everyone (almost everyone) here at Afterdawn.com has been a real gem helping me out with my problems, so it is a real pleasure to be of assistance to someone else here. If I can be of help again (I think I'm pushing my luck) just ask, I probably won't know the answer but I'm sure someone else will. I have produced alot of DVD's that are just a joy to watch. Does anyone know where you can buy some of the hard to find movies on DVD? When I say hard to find I mean some of the old classics, and muscials, Show Boat, Singing in the Rain, etc. My spouse loves Fred Astair, janet McDonald etc. thanks everyone.

The problem with the Navigation Structure error is that the disk has the Sony ArcoSS protection on it.
DVD Shrink cannot read the disk which is why you get the error.
You need to rip to the hard disk first with DVD Decrypter. Then DVD Shrink should work with the files.

It seems that there are several people trying to backup Flight Plan,
If you want to solve ALL and I mean ALL of your backup problems read this post!
Newer DVDs especially Sony titles are giving DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter troubles. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter were great at one time just as DVD X COPY was. Now is the time to upgrade. You need AnyDVD and DVDClone2. You can get them at www.slysoft.com.
You can try the software for free for 21 days but then you will need to pay for the two. It will cost you $59.00 and I promise you that it will be worth it. They give free lifetime updates. No more questions, no more posts, no more delays.
Please do not go to Limewire or Bearshare and try to get a hacked version. The hacked versions are not the latest versions and will not work properly. I know because I tried them. There are too many of us who are so cheap. This software is worth paying for. So if you want The Fog, Flight Plan, Madagascar, or The Cave then you need the current version of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2.
Once you have these on your machine you should have no problem backing up most any movie. Just go to www.slysoft.com and download AnyDVD and CloneDVD. That will solve ALL of your backup problems.

make sure you have downloaded Nero 7 that helps a whole lot. If you can't open your file by going into shrink and clicking on open file, then open my computer and click on your movie file, click on open with... shrink and see if that works. (going in the back door so to speak) Make sure you have down loaded the newest free version of Nero.
Try that

Hi Guys!!! This seems to be the problem page and though i have done this for years without really needing help,my turn has come...I currently can back up a DVD in 45 min using DVD Decrypter the DVD Shrink after its on the hard drive and burning it with Decrypter again with AnyDVD running background works PERFECTLY. i ALWAYS close off my Norton Antivirus/Firewall and unplug from the internet. Recently DVD Fab was given to me to try and backing up Flightplan it froze-up like a stone 1/3 of the way through the read so i cancelled it and went back to my BEST way of backing up my movie EXCEPT now when i open DVD Shrink on the VTS file it says Overlapping I/O in progress...so i uninstalled and deleted DVD Fab then when that didnt fix the problem! I uninstalled DVD Shrink which took care of the overlapping I/O problem, but it still reads it cannot find the 1st VOB file-ANYONE else had a problem with DVD Fab--im starting to think the I/O overlapping issue has something to do with the fact i still have XCopy Platinum on my system and DVD fab and X Copy both have Patin-Couffin driver--basically i just want to reset my system as was before DVD Fab. Any Ideas???
