I am fairly new with regards to backing up DVD's, I have used DVD Shrink for Mr. and Mrs. Smith.........with Nero 7 Utra as my burner, everythink worked great but the movie showed pixelization at certain scenes overall ok but is there a better way dvd like quality. P.S. Have an expensive stereo & tv set so quality is an issue.

There could be a couple of factors, not related to DVDShrink that could be causing this issue.

Burn speed, target size, and media type.

Burning too fast can cause burn errors.
Burning too close to the edge of the media can cause freezes and pixelations.
Poor quality media can cause this as well due to poor quality of production technique of the discs.

Provide the details of your burn info as related to the above.

Cheers.

I have Double Layer external 2.0 USB Burner DVD Rom 16x Max, DVD+R 16X, DVD+R 16x,

The movie size was 4.35GB after deleting extras and subtitles french etc...

Target Size????

Also, I currently have only 1.1 USB port on PC so I have installed a 2.0 USB port, process does not seem to be any quicker

You set the target size in DVDShrink - Click Edit>Preferences and on the preferences tab click the down arrow for target size and select "Custom" and then type 4300 into the text box at the right.

This will keep you from burning too close to the edge of the media.

As for media type I was looking for a brand name, like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, Fuji, Sony, or the dreadedly awful Memorex media.

Burt speed is the speed at which the media is burned by your buring program. Most recommend not burning faster than 4x until you are very experienced with your media type and the quality that is produced at varying speeds.

I have changed the preferences of DVD Shrink to 4300 from DVD5 of 4464
I currently use memorex dvd-r

Write speed, I do not know what write speed I used, but realize that you have the opetions in Nero 7 Ultra Burining Rom to pick write speed or let Nero determine maximum write speed

Memorex media is not highly regarded at this forum. The quality of the dye spread in the disc's manufactured by CMC corp is very poor. This can definately affect the playback of your burns.

I would suggest a change to better media. Visit the DVD media forum for some input on what is quality and what is not. Don't just go out and buy different media.

With the memorex's that you have left, slow your burn down to 4x maximum and you will probably get by with them, but I would not buy any more if you want your burns to last.

I appreciate all your help and have only 3 more questions.. Should I use DVDFAB or AnyDVD in case DVD Shrink cannot bypast copywrite protection?? Also do you know where I can find AnyDVD, I have read that it is not free, but support is great thus I dont mind spending if needed!! And lastly how do you feel about using DVD Shrink compared to other programs in terms of usage quality?

You can obtain AnyDVD from http://www.slysoft.com

AnyDVD and DVDFab are two different things. AnyDVD is a driver that runs in the background to remove encryptions from DVDs and CD's. That's about all it does.

DVDFab is a file ripper with a built in encryption breaker. It is not updated as quickly as AnyDVD, but is still a fine program.

DVDShrink is the main program that I use. I also have CloneDVD, but use DVDShrink more frequently as I am real comfortable with it and it has never failed me. Of course, I alway have AnyDVD running when I do a backup.

I have used DVDFab decrypter some as well, it is a ripper similar to DVDdecrypter with updated encryption breaking.

Cheers.
