I am trying to back up "Independence Day". I did a search for info on this matter but no luck.
I did the usual thing with Fabdecrypt, but instead of the usual files I get that Shrink can work with I got this Video_TS file.
When I tried to hit the reauthor key it will bring up the file that just has the logo at the begining and nothing more.
When I use full disk on Shrink and open files I get the movie, and other junk I can't get rid of.
I tried using that VOB Blanker .... not sure that's the software needed ..... but it did not help.
What am I suppose to do when fab creates Video_TS files?
Please help I know I am so close to backing up this movie.
Thank you for your time.

DVDfab decrypter is a whole movie only ripper with the ability to remove copy protection, it's output file is a VIDEO_TS folder containing all the video files which make up the movie (the folder should contain .ifo, .vob, and .bup files ).
Once DVDfab decrypter completes its process you can:
1) If the file size is less than 4.7 gb, you can burn the files onto to a DVD+/-R disk using Nero's DVD-Video app or what ever app you use.
2) If the file size is greater than 4.7 gb and want to burn to a DVD+/-R disk, you'll need to shrink them. The files can then be opened with DVDshrink by clicking the 'open files' tab on the upper left of shrink's window, browse to the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDfab decrypter, highlight the folder and click ok. DVDshrink will do a quick analysis of the files and then import them to do with what you want. If you're going to re-author, I suggest you backup the main movie only. In re-author mode just click on and drag Title 1 into the window on the left, click on the compression tab and uncheck all the extra stuff you don't want(keep the AC3 5.1 audio channel checked), choose backup and off you go.
3) If the file size is greater than 4.7 gb, you can burn to dual layer mdeia if your burner supports dual layer burns.
Shrink can also create an ISO image of the files for burning as well. While in the 'backup' window, choose save target as ISO image or ISO image and burn with decrypter, if you choose the latter you'll have to have dvddecrypter installed for it to work, also uncheck the burn with nero option in shrink's 'I/O file' tab.
There are more options, but basically it's upto you.

I tried to use shrink, the way you discribed, but there were a lot of other files other than the movie that I could not get rid of. The delete option was grayed out.
Will Shrink ignore these files when it encodes the movie? Will I have problems with the finish product.
Thank you so much for your response and time.

Sorry about another post, but I didn't see a way to edit my last post.
I tried to use the shrink on that video_ts file, but it puts the menu in and alot of other junk. I try to delete it, but the option is grayed out. When I tell shrink to back it up it loops on the menu for a while before doing the movie and I don't want that in if it is not functional.
How do I get rid of that?
If I use the reauthor option the moive is not there. Only the logo. I looked in all the files and the movie is not there.
So how do I get just the movie from the video_ts file?
Thank you for your time.

@spiritoo
I can't visualize what you are saying. Sometimes when I have ripped with DVDFab and then opened the Video_TS folder I would have to scroll down(use scroll bar) the right hand pane of DVDShrink to get the main movie title. It would not be visible without scrolling.
Does yours show a scroll bar?

Yes it does .... but when I get the files using full disk the files are to the left and the menu along with other junk is there as well. The option to set up the begining and end is not there.
When I tried to delete the junk I find I can't because the delete option is grayed out.
When I use reauthor the files are to the right and there is a scroll, but the only files that are there have nothing to do with the movie. I scrolled down and checked all the files .... I even looked in the extras for it, but it's not there.
Shrink is analying everything the menu and all when I click on backup. The menu loops for a long while and I don't want that in.
I just need to know how to get that out .... once it is shrink will do it's job, but the problem is getting the junk out.
I try VOB Blanker, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. The files I got from it were empty as well.
Help!

I ripped "Independence Day" like 5 months ago.
Use DVD Shrink and DVD43.
If it doesn't work then the disc is dirty or
in bad/sad shape with nicks and scratches.
Either rent a good copy or might try the
Public Library [usually free.]
"the Cave" will not rip, use latest version 2.9.6.6
of DVDFab Decrypter (earlier ver.don't work) and
Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 - Disc Copier program
to locate Video_TS folder and Burn.
Also Nero 7 -Recode2 works, note: there is a whole
Thread on THE CAVE issue using VOB Blanker, etc:
But if you're only interested in "Movie Only" and 100% quality,
Please take short cut and rip it as indicated here above.

The problem is not ripping if I understand the term correctly. I have the movie on my drive. I just don't know how to get rid of the excess junk so I will have a copy of the movie only.
Can anyone tell me how to do that? I know someone must have had this problem before, I just can't come up with the right key word for the search.
There must be a answer of getting rid of the excess junk.
Thank you for your time.

I believe VOB Blanker is the answer but I haven't figured it out yet.
I found the movie and found a way to skip all the other stuff except the movie. I got it to process and it did do something to the files. There are files in the Temp folder I created to get the coverted files.
When I when to shrink and tried to click on the file I got this message ...
"Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to open file F:\Temp\Video_TS.IFO"
There is not much info on this program .... I would love to see one of those step by step guides and picture for it .... So if anyone can tell me how to work VOB Blanker where shrink will see the files please post.
Thank you for your time.

I give up. I can't get this movie .... nothing works.
I tried VOB Blanker but shrink doesn't see the files then I tried to do VOB Blanker again in hope shrink would see it, now VOB is giving me errors....."Error: NAV Pack out of VOB"
So that's that.

Thanks I have the guide. The files FabDVD is creating is different than the usual files that you can reauthor in Shrink.
The Video_TS file will not work in Shrink or at least I can't get rid of the menu and a bunch of other junk. I just want the movie and that's the problem.
I can't get VOB Blanker to work so I am at a lost. I tried Nero Express, but that didn't work with this file either.
Thanks anyway.

There shouldn't be any difference, but try ripping the DVD with DVDdecrypter in file mode(whole movie) then open the files with shrink and try to re-author.
You can also use DVDdecrypter in file mode to rip the main movie + IFOs then open the files with shrink. If shrink gives you a problem opening the files you'll need to process the files thru ifoedit(Automatic repair the file pointers with IfoEdit) first then open with shrink.
get it here:

Shrink works fine with VIDEO_TS files. You have to hit the folder icon on the toolbar at top that says open files, not the open disc icon or File/open disc image. As for editing the rest, open re-author mode and select the main movie only.

Okay!
Ripping works for you..but burning it to DVD-5 disc is the culprit.
It was mentioned you could use DVD Shrink as to search for the Video_TS folder and making the selection under Re-Authoring.
The other option that works very well for me is ROXIO
Easy Media Creator version 7, 7.5 or 8 - the Disc Copier program.
It accepts Video_TS/VOB and ISO files. Roxio EMC will burn the whole
Movie to DVD, if it's too large will automatically reduce but with
non-identical quality...still Very Good is hard to notice the difference during play.
Nero 7 -Recode2 will also work....other programs exists such as
DVD Santa.

if i were you(those having problems and those who are about to backup sony or disney movies), i would not worry about what decrypter to use, i would use whichever back the movie up and then run those files thru VobBlanker or FixVTS. for what i have experinced lately, sometimes even having AnyDVD in the background does not work. just today(1/6)i backedup "FlightPlan" with decrypter and AnyDVD in the background, when i went to open the files with shrink, shrink could not handle it. so i run the files thru vobblanker and it work.
so again. for "FlightPlan" decrypter/VobBlanker/shrink should do just fine. By the way, clonedvd2, DVD2One and Recode2 are handling this one without the help of vobblanker. good luck.
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Thanks John, I will try your suggestion. I have no idea why shrink won't see the movie in reauthor mode or why I can't remove the junk using the open disk option.
I'll see if I can find instruction on using DVDdecrypt in file mode.

I have done that and I get the movie plus a bunch of junk I can't remove. If I could figure out a way to get rid of the junk shrink would do it's job. But so far I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of the extras, so I have just the moive.

Yes I got the ripping part done .... as I stated earlier .... I tried to use the reauthor, but the movie was not in the file. Just the logo for Fox and THX .... I looked through the extras as well, but the moive was not there.
Thank you all for your posts and time.

@spirittoo. just a advise, i only, only use FabDecrypter if Decrypter can't ripped a movie. i try to use Decrypter and AnyDVD together if that doesn't wotk, then i use Fab. i don't trust FabDecrypter 100% just yet. i have not found a movie Decrypter alone or with AnyDVD can't backup yet.
