Ok,

First I would like to explain that I am completly new to all of this. I am having trouble with DVD Shrink and my burning software.

Here are my computers highlights:
Sonic RecordNow V7
Running AnyDVD in the background (newest version)
DVD Shrink V3.2.5.15
Lightscribe Capable DVD R/RW DL
Compaq 3200 AMD Athalon 3200
Verbatim DVD-R (NON DL)

First, I am trying to convers German DVD's from region 2 to "ALL" regions. I think I have a good understanding of AnyDVD and all of the different settings (thanks to these forums). However, everytime I try to shrink any DVD it always come out 135% in sive. I have changes and adjusted everything that I have come across concerning all of the above programs.

I am still having trouble understanding the burning process within my sonic program (but I think that is all due to the 135% issue.

Any help would be greatly apreciated as I promised my wife she could watch her DVD's on her new DVD player by the TV. I would also like to eventually burn my own DVD's.

Thanks,

ZoSo

Your problem is that the data is to big for Sonic to handle. Just use DVD Shrink to compress it and then burn with Sonic. Click Edit and then Preferences. In the drop down box, make sure it reads DVD-5 unless you've got a dual layered burner, then change it to DVD-9. Shrink will compress it to your harddrive and you can burn it with Sonic from there.

YOBUZZB,

I do have a dual layer (DL) burner but am trying to burn onto single layer DVD+/-R's. The problem is that it doesnt matter how far I shring a DVD to my hard drive my Sonic still says the files are 135% of the 100% for the DVD.

I was thinking about just oging out and buying some DL DVD's to get around my issues, but I would really like to know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks to all for any help.

Oh, and another question...

DVD Shrink makes two folders (Audio and Video). I know there is nothing in the audio folder after shrinking. Concerning the video folder when I go to start burning and I select the video folder to run from I can eother get the files Sonic says it needs or I can get "All Files" from the folder. Which way is correct?

Perhaps I', making this whole process too hard on myself. Would it be worth it to just go out and spend the $30 of a 50 pack of DL DVD-R's instead of shrinking everything?

Yes, you are just making it hard on yourself. Use DVD Shrink to create your ISO as suggested by YOBUZZB and then use Imgburn to burn your ISO image. Don't waste your money on the DL media unless you just have money to burn(no pun intended), a quality backup can be made with compression to a DVD-5.

To be honest with you I gave up on Sonic shortly after I got my new computer. Try ImgBurn. You can download it from on of the other threads on this post.

Have you read this thread? Someone could tell you how to use Sonic but I haven't run too many people here that use the program. I certainly don't so I can only offer you another method of burning. Just try Imgburn, it is a free program and there is nothing shady about it. You can get it here for free: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

If you are using Sonic it only burns iso files, not DVD files.

Here is a set of guides from BBMayo: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

So all of the guides you've read so far have got you to put the movie on your HDD, is that where we are? What type of file are we working with here, a VIDEO_TS folder or and ISO image?

This link might be very helpful when working with DVD Shrink. This website have a very detailed tutorials on how to copy DVD using DVD Shrink,DVD2SVCD,DVD Decrypter and how to burn them with DVD Shrink. To some people who are interested in experimenting with different video format like DVD to VCD, SVCD, and AVI (DiVX) conversions are also available.

Well, this might be helpful: 1. Decrypt with DVD Decrypter. 2. Shrink with DVD Shrink selecting it to save as an Image File. 3. If Shrink won't work, run the decrypted files through VOB Blanker first and then process with Shrink. 4. Use DVD Decrypter to burn. This process has worked well for me. I've also come across some DVD's which Shrink can process directly, and then I just burn with DVD Decrypter. Sometimes DVD Decrypter won't work, so I use DVD Fab Decrypter--which has not been shut down or bought out by a corporate giant yet--so it's still in development and the stripped down version is free. I have Sonic (it comes with Hewlett-Packard computers these days) but I've never used it to burn DVD's, just CD's.

These days, the links to the software which I have mentioned have been removed from Afterdawn because of yet another step in establishing the New World Order for the big corporations. However, if you search DVD Decrypter, DVD Fab Decrypter and VOB Blanker using Google or another search engine, you'll find links for download. Also, the software is still floating around in file sharing circles too. I don't know, are we allowed to provide links in the discussion forums here? Any way, hope this helps someone.

Well, that's interesting. Every time I mention DVD Dectypter in my posting, it links to Slysoft. What's with that? Slysoft's stuff works well, but you have to PAY money for it. The software I mentioned is free.

Now I've got an advertisement inserted in between my postings! I think this "refugee" needs to find another forum. I'm not mentioning any more software names.
