Yup, i'm a newbie. I have downloaded a movie which when unzipped opens up into two CD's both avi files. I can easily burn them to 2 disk but i would like to know how can I burn it to one and get the best quality pic out of it. I am using single layer disc. Should i get dual layers. Or is there any other way. Thanks in advance.

ss81,
Welcome to the forum. You will need to convert the .avi files to DVD-Compliant Mpeg-2 files. You can use the programs below as they are freeware:

Avi2dvd: www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html or

VSO DivxtoDVD: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/v...

After conversion you can use Shrink to compress if they are too large and then burn w/ whatever software you have

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but once you have removed the quality, in order to get it crammed into an avi file, there is simply no way to restore it?
The quality, that is..

ss81,
Any time you convert you lose a little quality. Unless your Standalone DVD player can play Raw .avi files then you have to convert them to mpeg-2 DVD Compliant files so the player will recog them. Just convert them and see what the quality is. If you do not like it te raw data is still there.
Using a DVD-9 disk really depends on the size of the finished files. I just put mine on a DVD-5 using Premiere though as most of mine are Home Movies
