I am getting this error msg when I try to burn any movie on my desktop using shrink and Nero 7(demo version). I know now I am using crappy discs but when I unplug my Lite-on DVD burner and then plug it into my laptop(with XP home)everything works fine. Is there a problem with the demo version? Or is something amiss on my desktop(5 yr old Pentium 3 HP)? Any help would be appreciated!

Your firmware is out of date, current version is JSOD. Here is the link:

You are writing too close to the edge, try to go no further than 4300MB. In shrink go to Edit>Preferences>under the first tab>scroll down until you get to custom>tyep in 4300 in box beside it.

Ok frank, lets see we can take care of this. According to your log:

1) The demo version of nero is a bit behind, it should be ver 7.0.1.4b, remove/uninstall your current version using the nero clean tool and then install the current version.
Get the clean tool here:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_Clean_Tool.html

Get the current version here:
http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

2) Your burners firmware is behind one update @version JS0C, it should be JS0D.

"LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S>Version: JS0C"

To get the update click on the link and enter the model# in the search field (SOHW-1673S), then click on version JS0D.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

3) Set nero to write at 4x speed instead of 8x

There are two other things you might want to consider:
Your physical memory is a bit low for windows xp, if you can bring it up to at least 512MB. If your still having problems, try using different media, my favorite is Verbatim 16x DVDs.

good luck.

Hey thanks!! You guys are great. Much faster than Nero's tech help too-still waiting on their reply. I'll let you know how this works out. One thing I don't understand. I can burn everything else-bin and cue files,AVI,mpeg's,etc. but I can't burn a DVD image from a disc. Why is that? What's the difference?
